Wofford @ Baylor preview
Floyd Casey Stadium
Trying to build off a season-ending four-game win streak, explosive Baylor hosts FCS school Wofford on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. The first-ever meeting kicks off the Bears’ final year at historic Floyd Casey Stadium. Baylor has a soft non-conference schedule before starting Big 12 play Oct. 5 at West Virginia.
Baylor returns 13 starters from a team that set or tied 37 offensive school records and won a second straight bowl game for the first time in 25 years. The Terriers tied for the Southern Conference title last season but must replace all-time rushing leader Eric Breitenstein, who ran for 5,730 career yards. Wofford has made the FCS playoffs five of the past six years.

ABOUT WOFFORD (2012: 9-4, 6-2 Southern): The Terriers lost three starters from an offensive line that helped paved the way for 349 rushing yards per game (2nd nationally) but they are committed to running from their triple-option. Wofford threw just 88 times in 13 games last season, and only six of their 49 touchdowns came via the pass. Senior Donovan Johnson, who ranked second on the team with 473 rushing yards last season, is the top candidate to replace Breitenstein.
ABOUT BAYLOR (2012: 8-5, 4-5 Big 12): Running back Lache Seastrunk (1,012 rushing yards in 2012) is the Big 12 preseason offensive player of the year, and Tevin Reese (nine TDs last year) leads a loaded receiving corps. But the Bears have an unproven quarterback in 6-3, 230-pound junior Bryce Petty. Coach Art Briles says Petty has the tools “to break every Baylor record there is offensively.”
EXTRA POINTS
1. Seastrunk topped 100 yards rushing in five of the final six games last season.
2. Baylor senior RB Glasco Martin is a punishing runner; the 6-1, 220-pounder ran for 15 scores last year.
3. Baylor, which returns seven defensive starters, nabbed eight interceptions and made 18 tackles for a loss in the last four games of 2012.
PREDICTION: Baylor 45, Wofford 13
