Buffalo @ Baylor preview

Floyd Casey Stadium

Last Meeting ( Sep 11, 2010 ) Buffalo 6, Baylor 34

No one can accuse Buffalo coach Jeff Quinn of padding his nonconference schedule with softies. A week after traveling to No. 2 Ohio State and causing the Buckeyes a few anxious moments in an eventual 40-20 loss, the Bulls face another daunting road task with a game at Baylor. The Bears, who sit just outside the Top 25 Coaches Poll, hammered Wofford, 69-3, in their opener.

This is the third meeting between the two schools and the second in the last four years in Waco. The Bears, behind an up-and-coming quarterback named Robert Griffin III, won the last meeting, 34-6, in 2010 as RGIII ran for two touchdowns and passed for two more. Baylor has won four straight games at home and is 13-1 there since 2011 with the only loss coming to TCU in 2012.

TIME: 3:30 p.m. ET, FSN. LINE: Baylor -27.5.

ABOUT BUFFALO (0-1): After falling behind 23-0 in the first quarter at Ohio State, the Bulls outscored the Buckeyes, 20-17, the rest of the way and had a chance to make it even closer if not for a turnover-on-downs right in front of the Ohio State end zone. Linebacker Khalil Mack showed why he is considered a potential first-round NFL pick with nine tackles, 2.5 sacks and an interception he returned 45 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Joe Licata also responded well to the pressure of playing in front of nearly 104,000 fans on the road, going 19-of-32 for 185 yards and two touchdowns.

ABOUT BAYLOR (1-0): Bryce Petty looked comfortable in new role as starting quarterback, going 19-of-24 for 312 yards and two touchdowns in the rout of Wofford. Of course, handing the ball off to a potential Heisman Trophy candidate helps. Junior tailback Lache Seastrunk rushed for 111 yards and scored two touchdowns on just 11 carries as the Bears finished with 692 total yards, including 281 on the ground.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Seastrunk has exceeded the 100-yard rushing barrier in a school-record five straight games.

2. Mack has 11 career forced fumbles and is three away from the NCAA record.

3. Baylor's season-opening victory was its most points in a game since an 88-0 win against Stephen F. Austin in 1929.

PREDICTION: Baylor 48, Buffalo 14
