A pair of high-powered passing offenses meet when Stephen F. Austin visits Texas Tech in a FCS-FBS battle Saturday. Walk-on freshman quarterback Baker Mayfield - believed to be the first freshmen walk-on to start a season opener for a BCS school - threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns in his debut for the Red Raiders against the Southern Methodist Mustangs last week. Senior Brady Attaway matched the Mayfield's feat, tossing four TDs with 450 passing yards in the Lumberjacks' season-opening loss to fellow FCS foe Weber State.

Not only are both teams led by pass-driven quarterbacks, they are also coached by former Red Raider pivots. Texas Tech is led by 34-year-old Kliff Kingsbury, the youngest head coach at a BCS school and a former Red Raiders quarterback - their second all-time leading passer. The Lumberjacks' quarterbacks coach Landon Hoefer, a 2008 Texas Tech graduate and quarterback, is in his first season at SFA. Hoefer was a three-year letterwinner at quarterback for the Red Raiders and played in four-straight bowl games. Look for both teams to emphasize the pass game.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FOX 1. LINE: None.

ABOUT STEPHEN F. AUSTIN (0-1, 0-0 Southland): The Lumberjacks racked up 564 yards of total offense, but fell short in a 50-40 loss to Weber State last week. Mike Brooks and DJ Ward each eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark, while 2012 First-Team All-Southland Conference pick Gus Johnson collected 110 yards on the ground for the sixth 100-yard rushing game of his career. SFA converted in each of its four trips in the red zone in the opening contest.

ABOUT TEXAS TECH (1-0, 0-0 Big 12): Mayfield was one of six freshmen to see playing time in the opening game against SMU. Eleven receivers caught passes from the 18-year-old pivot, led by Biletnikoff Award candidate Eric Ward's 13 catches for 150 yards. The Red Raider defense stifled Southern with five sacks, their most since 2010, and eight tackles for a loss.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Kingsbury looks to become the ninth consecutive Texas Tech head coach to win his home season debut.

2. The Lumberjacks are 2-13 against FBS opponents with their first victory coming against Louisiana Tech in 2000.

3. Texas Tech has compiled a 16-1 all-time record against FCS opponents since 1978.

PREDICTION: Texas Tech 40, Stephen F. Austin 21
