Wagner @ Syracuse preview
Carrier Dome
Despite an 0-2 record and a scuffling offense, Syracuse is not ready to make a quarterback change just yet. However, the Orange have announced that sophomore Terrel Hunt will see action under center on Saturday when Syracuse hosts FCS opponent Wagner. Hunt played well at the end of last week’s blowout loss to Northwestern – his first career action after senior Drew Allen threw six interceptions in the Orange’s first seven-plus quarters this season.
Allen, a transfer from Oklahoma, will get the start for first-year coach Scott Shafer as both seek their first career win against a Seahawks team that actually uses Matt Misley as its quarterback and punter. Misley and Wagner running back Dominique Williams (22 career 100-yard games) will take aim at a Syracuse defense that gave up 48 points, including 34 in the first half, against Northwestern. Hunt, who led the Orange on a fourth-quarter touchdown drive in his only possession against the Wildcats, should pose a challenge for the Seahawks with his arm and, more likely, his feet.

ABOUT WAGNER (1-1): In his 33rd season with the Seahawks, Walt Hameline is 214-128-2, including a win over Georgetown in the 2013 season opener. Wagner received 110 yards rushing from Williams and three total touchdowns from Misley in last week’s 42-41 defeat to Merrimack. Misley is averaging 140 passing yards and 38 yards per punt.
ABOUT SYRACUSE (0-2): With their passing game going through some growing pains, the Orange likely will rely on their two-headed rushing attack featuring Jerome Smith and Prince-Tyson Gulley. Syracuse sophomore wideout Ashton Broyld is looking to build off a pair of career highs (seven catches, 62 yards) against Northwestern. No linebacker in the country has started more games than Syracuse’s Marquis Spruill, who has played all three positions during his 38 career starts.
EXTRA POINTS
1. The Orange have not lost to a current FCS school since falling to Holy Cross in 1958.
2. Syracuse has scored on all seven of its red-zone opportunities this season, including six touchdowns.
3. This will be Wagner’s second game against an FBS opponent. The Seahawks lost to Florida Atlantic, 7-3, in their 2012 opener.
PREDICTION: Syracuse 33, Wagner 14
