J.W. Walsh and Oklahoma State received some encouraging news about Walsh’s right foot injury and the quarterback hasn’t been ruled out for Saturday’s game against visiting Texas-San Antonio. Cowboys coach Mike Gundy would not discuss a timetable for Walsh’s return but it was originally feared Walsh could miss as long as two months. “It’s not as severe as what was originally thought,” Gundy told reporters. “So that’s good news. To what extent? We won’t know.”

Walsh, who started Oklahoma State’s first two games, injured his right foot late in the first quarter of last week’s 40-23 victory over Missouri State and was replaced by Daxx Garman. Garman filled in nicely and finished 16-of-26 for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Roadrunners nearly toppled Arizona last week before losing 26-23.

ABOUT TEXAS SAN ANTONIO (1-1): Apparently playing on the road doesn’t fluster the Roadrunners. They’ve won nine of their last 13 away from home following the season-opening triumph at Houston. The Roadrunners were victorious in four of their six outings away from home in each of the 2012 and 2013 seasons after going winless on the road in 2011.

ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (1-1): Oklahoma State is 31-4 at Boone Pickens Stadium against unranked teams since 2010. The last unranked team to beat the Cowboys at home was Houston in 2009. Also, Oklahoma State is 20-3 in its last 23 games against teams from the state of Texas.

EXTRA POINTS

1. Oklahoma State held both Florida State and Missouri State to 4-of-14 on third down.

2. The Cowboys are tied with Tulane for the most freshmen and sophomores on their depth charts with 32.

3. Saturday’s game concludes a season-opening stretch of three games in 16 days for the Roadrunners.

PREDICTION: Oklahoma State 40, Texas San Antonio 24
