UCLA @ Texas preview
AT&T Stadium
Last Meeting ( Sep 17, 2011 ) Texas 49, UCLA 20
No. 12 UCLA was a trendy "sleeper" pick for a national title in the preseason, but after a few less-than-spectacular victories to open the season, the Bruins are looking to put together a solid effort both offensively and defensively Saturday, when they meet Texas at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex. New coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns also will be looking for a little consistency after last week’s most lopsided home loss since 1997. UCLA will have a decided edge at quarterback, as Heisman Trophy hopeful Brett Hundley will be making his 30th career start compared to just the second for Tyrone Swoopes.

ABOUT UCLA (2-0): The Bruins struggled offensively in a 28-20 win over Virginia in Week 1 and defensively in a 35-28 victory against Memphis last week. After getting sacked five times in the opener, Hundley threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns last week while tying a school record with 33 completions. However, lowly Memphis, which has posted six consecutive losing seasons, rolled up 469 yards - including 305 through the air - against the Bruins.
ABOUT TEXAS (1-1): After their team yielded just 94 yards and intercepted four passes against North Texas in the season opener, the Longhorns faithful were hoping for a solid defensive effort last week against Brigham Young, which rolled up 679 total yards last season en route to a 41-20 win over Texas. The defense held stout for the first half but yielded 199 yards and four third-quarter touchdowns, turning a six-point halftime deficit into a 41-6 thumping. Swoopes, who completed 20-of-31 passes for 176 yards with a touchdown and an interception against BYU, will get the start again as David Ash still is recovering from a concussion.
EXTRA POINTS
1. The schools have split six previous meetings, with Texas posting a 49-20 triumph in the most recent matchup in 2011.
2. Bruins LB Myles Jack, the Pac-12's Offensive and Defensive Newcomer of the Year last season who averaged seven yards on 38 carries, will get more action this week in the running attack - which is averaging only 3.3 yards per attempt.
3. Texas is tied for fourth among FBS schools with 10 sacks. Hundley has been sacked 97 times since the start of the 2012 season.
