Last Meeting ( Oct 22, 2011 ) Georgia Tech 7, Miami 24
The last time Miami played a team with a strong ground attack, it was no match. Kansas State rolled up 288 rushing yards in handing the Hurricanes an embarrassing defeat on Sept. 8. Miami will be up against it once again when it visits Georgia Tech in a key ACC tilt. The Yellow Jackets, annually a machine on the ground, boast the nation's third-ranked attack in that department, averaging 374.0 rushing yards a game. Tech owns a 10-7 series advantage but the Canes have won the last three meetings.TV: 3 p.m., ESPN3 LINE: Georgia Tech -13
ABOUT MIAMI (2-1, 1-0 ACC): The Hurricanes rebounded from the drubbing at Kansas State by beating up on FCS foe Bethune-Cookman last Saturday. Freshman running back Duke Johnson had a game to remember, scoring four touchdowns. Two came on the ground, one through the air and another on a 95-yard kickoff return. Johnson has six scores in his first three college games. Miami is 7-0 following a loss in the Al Golden era.
ABOUT GEORGIA TECH (2-1, 1-1 ACC): The Yellow Jackets produced an incredible 461 yards on the ground in a 56-20 pasting of Virginia last week. Quarterback Tevin Washington ran for 93 yards and three touchdowns and had a 70-yard TD pass to start the scoring. The 56 points were the most for the program under head coach Paul Johnson and the third-most in an ACC game. This contest marks the third of four straight home games for Tech.
EXTRA POINTS
1. Johnson is on pace for 2,552 all-purpose yards. The Miami record is 2,102, set by Willis McGahee in 2002.
2. The Yellow Jackets have been held to single digits just once since Nov. 8, 2008. That came at Miami last year, when the Canes held Georgia Tech to 211 total yards and forced three turnovers in a 24-7 victory.
3. After the visit to Atlanta, the Hurricanes play four of their next five games at home.
