Last Meeting ( Nov 3, 2012 ) Connecticut 6, South Florida 13

T.J. Weist's first move as the interim head coach at Connecticut was to make a quarterback change ahead of Saturday's American Athletic Conference game against visiting South Florida. Out is Chandler Whitmer, and in is Tim Boyle, a freshman who started the season as a redshirt. "We're open to playing him," Weist told reporters. "We're open to doing anything. You get to this situation, when you are 0-4, you have to figure out what needs to be done to make it right. "

Weist will see a familiar face on the opposing sideline in South Florida head coach Willie Taggart, as the two were assistant coaches under Jack Harbaugh for five seasons at Western Kentucky. After a stint at Stanford, Taggart went on to become the head coach at Western Kentucky, and now is in his first season with the Bulls, who gave their coach his first victory last week against Cincinnati. "We've had time together, and know each other very well," Taggart told the Hartford Courant. "Coach Weist is a highly competitive guy, like myself. We always challenge each other."

ABOUT SOUTH FLORIDA (1-4, 1-0 AAC): Quarterback Steven Bench and top rusher Marcus Shaw are questionable for this game due to leg injuries suffered in the win over Cincinnati. Shaw has accounted for 575 of 790 rushing yards this season for the Bulls. Bobby Eveld, who has started two games this season, would likely take over at quarterback, while Michael Pierre is the only other running back on the roster to gain more than 100 yards this season.

ABOUT CONNECTICUT (0-4): Doyle, a Connecticut native who originally committed to Boston College, takes over an offense that ranks near the bottom of the FBS in total yards and last in rushing. He will face a South Florida defense that has allowed an average of 34.2 points per game this season, despite coming up with 12 turnovers. "We'll be patient with him (Doyle)," Weist told the Hartford Courant. "I treat him like most of the players. He must go out there and perform."

EXTRA POINTS

1. South Florida K Marvin Kloss kicked a career-high four field goals, including one from 52 yards, in the 26-20 victory over Cincinnati.

2. Connecticut senior OL Tyler Bullock was suspended indefinitely after a DUI arrest Oct. 3.

3. These teams have met every year since 2005, with an average margin of victory of seven points.

PREDICTION: South Florida 23, Connecticut 16
