Jacksonville State’s pass defense has been strong, allowing just 191.4 passing yards per game. FIU moves the ball through the air but is averaging only 18.5 points per game. If the Gamecocks limit the Panthers’ passing attack while FIU shuts down Jacksonville State’s run game, points should come at a premium.
Jacksonville State is in for a wake-up call against an FIU defense that has shut down every rushing attack it has faced this season. The Panthers also rank ninth in first-half points allowed, so points should be at a premium throughout this matchup. Meanwhile, the Gamecocks rank 95th in first-half points allowed, surrendering 15.6 per game this season.
Western Kentucky and Sam Houston both rank among the top four in seconds per play across their first three drives in their conference. With WKU ranking 16th nationally in seconds per play and both defenses struggling to contain explosive plays, expect a fast-paced matchup with plenty of early scoring opportunities.
With both teams leaning on their air attacks, expect a fast-paced matchup. Western Kentucky ranks 16th in seconds per play, while both defenses have struggled to contain explosive plays and limit scoring. With both offenses poised to capitalize, this matchup has the potential to turn into a shootout.
East Carolina is my favorite side in this matchup, laying 4.5 points on the road against UAB. The Pirates have the defensive chops to slow down the Blazers, who have struggled through the air and dealt with turnover issues. Keep an eye on the line, as a move to -3 would be ideal.
The Pirates have one of the fastest-tempo offenses in college football, averaging 23.25 seconds per play, which ranks ninth nationally. They rank fifth nationally in seconds per play across their first three drives, showing just how quickly East Carolina wants to get things moving. The goal is to exhaust opponents as quickly as possible. I leaned toward the first-half under, but with how fast the Pirates will want to come out of the gate, getting in and getting out with East Carolina is the move in the first half.
The Memphis rushing attack against Tulane's defense is the matchup that will lead the Tigers to victory. The Tigers rank seventh in the nation in both yards per carry and rushing yards per game, while Tulane is 112th in opponent yards per carry and 129th (out of 138!) in rushing yards allowed per game. Memphis also leads the nation in yards per attempt and is second in yards per play overall. Whatever way you slice it, Tulane won't be able to stop the Tigers.
Washington has had an ugly start to the season, but I still like the Huskies to cover +3.5 or better. Purdue's defense is one of the worst in the country, ranking 128th in available yards percentage (60.2%). And against defenses ranked Top 40 by SP+, Purdue is 0-2 ATS. The Huskies' defense is ranked No. 32 by SP+.
I like the hook here which is a big deal around a key number. I'm not buying this Texas Tech team. Their last two games were miracle covers. Both teams have played a similar strength of schedule, but Arizona State has a slightly better yards per play margin, so I'll take advantage at this number.
This is an ultimate buy-low spot. Toledo lost outright last week as an 18.5-point favorite. Prior to that, they were one of the more consistent teams in the country. Toledo is the much better team here, coming in at +2.0 in yards per play margin while Eastern Michigan is -1.0. That usually signifies a double-digit point spread. Let's take advantage.
I like Alabama to cover up to -9.5 because of Tennessee's QB issue. The Crimson Tide are averaging 40 points per game against P4 defenses ranked outside the top five by SP+. Tennessee just struggled to score against an Arkansas defense that allowed 34+ to Utah, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Wisconsin has looked extremely competent lately. The Badgers have won four straight games, have covered in three straight, and are catching UCLA in a very tricky spot. The Bruins will have to fend off a serious letdown after taking down Oregon on the road, and Nico Iameleava's leg injury looms large after he left Saturday's game in the second half. If he can't go, UCLA will struggle against a Wisconsin defense that leads the nation in yards per play and ranks fifth in yards per game.
BYU is 5-0 ATS, but the Cougars haven't played a strong schedule, and without LJ Martin, I like Notre Dame to cover -9.5 or better. The Fighting Irish's defense is the best BYU has played and ranks No. 2 nationally in available yards percentage (26.7%). Without the reigning Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year (Martin), the Cougars won't score enough to cover.

As human beings, we're bound to be biased with our picks and potentially fall into the trap of swinging with the public. With advanced stats growing in popularity and getting harder to track, college football computer predictions are starting to become more relied on.
Betting on a moneyline simply means you're picking the outright winner of the game, regardless of the scoring margin or total. If the team you choose wins, then your bet hits. Here's what it will look like over at your favorite sportsbook:
| Team | Moneyline |
|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | -120 |
| Missouri Tigers | +150 |
In this case, Alabama is favored to win the game as its moneyline odds have a minus sign (-) in front of the number. The favorites will have the minus sign present, and the underdogs will have a plus sign (+). Easy, right?
Betting the spread gives your bet a bit more breathing room. Here, you don't need to sweat out a team to win. Instead, you can wager on the point differential on the scoreboard.
Betting on the spread is a good idea when the moneyline profits aren't enticing. There's no point betting on Alabama as a heavy -1500 favorite over Missouri. But taking Missouri to keep the scoring margin within a certain frame will get you more bang for your buck.
| Team | Spread |
|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | -24.5 (-105) |
| Missouri Tigers | +24.5 (-115) |
In this example, the Tide are favored to dominate their game against Missouri, outperforming them by at least 24.5 points.
If Alabama does win by more than 25 points, that would mean the Crimson Tide covered the spread. But if the Tide won by just 20 points, then that would mean the Tigers "covered the spread" instead.
If you think the outcome of a game could flip in either direction, then an Over/Under is the way to go. This bet relies on the combined score from both teams and whether it goes Over or Under the point total listed at sportsbooks. Then, who cares who wins?
| Team | Total |
|---|---|
| Alabama Crimson Tide | O 52.5 (-110) |
| Missouri Tigers | U 52.5 (-110) |
In this example, oddsmakers have set the total score for the game at 52.5 points. The choice is now up to you. If you think the Tide and Tigers will score a combined total of more than 52.5 points, 53 points or more, then pick the Over. If you're thinking otherwise, then bet the Under, and the bet will hit if they score fewer than 52.5 points.
If the set number was a whole number like 52 points and the two teams score exactly that amount, then it is considered a push and you'd get your money back.
