Toronto Maple Leafs vs Arizona Coyotes Match Player Stats On Jan 12, 2022

Ryan Dzingel scored two goals, including the game-winner with 7:18 to play, as the Arizona Coyotes earned a 2-1 victory over the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs at Glendale, Ariz., to spoil Auston Matthews' homecoming.

Dzingel, who missed the previous seven games due to an upper-body injury, recorded the 10th two-goal game of his career and doubled his goal total on the season. Karel Vejmelka made 45 saves as the Coyotes won for just the eighth time in 34 games this season, with three of the victories coming in the past six games.

Matthews scored a goal for the Maple Leafs, while Petr Mrazek had 16 saves in just his fourth game of the season. Matthews scored in his ninth consecutive road game to set a franchise record.

The Maple Leafs saw their point streak end at six games (5-0-1).

Dzingel gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead thanks to a fortuitous bounce. His initial shot went over the goal, off the glass and rebounded right back to him where he scored past Mrazek at 14:57 of the opening period.

The Maple Leafs controlled play early but could not score, leading 20-6 in shots over the first period. Neither team scored in the second period, with the Maple Leafs extending their shots advantage to 35-12.

Vejmelka's 45 saves in the game were his third most this season behind a pair of 46-save efforts.

Matthews tied the game 1-all just 14 seconds into the third period for his 24th of the season. It was his fourth goal in nine career games against his hometown team.

Dzingel's fourth of the season came at 12:42 of the third period off a cross-ice pass from Nick Schmaltz that Mrazek was unable to deflect. Dzingel redirected his shot into a wide-open goal.
