Last Meeting ( Dec 29, 2018 ) Detroit 1, Dallas 5

The Dallas Stars continue the search for their first victory of the season when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday. Dallas has dropped a pair of one-goal decisions to start 2019-20, including Saturday's 3-2 setback at St. Louis in which it squandered a third-period lead.

Mattias Janmark and defenseman Miro Heiskanen scored as the Stars carried a 2-1 lead into the third session in the opener of their three-game road trip before succumbing. Detroit is coming off a season-opening 5-3 triumph at Nashville in which it allowed a two-goal lead to disappear before scoring three times in the third period. Tyler Bertuzzi netted a pair of tallies and set up two others for a career-high four points while Anthony Mantha recorded a goal and two assists. Luke Glendening snapped a 3-3 tie midway through the final session to match his game-winning goal total from last season and set up Bertuzzi's second tally with 62 seconds remaining as the Red Wings began their season-opening string of three straight games against Western Conference opponents.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, FS Southwest (Dallas), FS Detroit

ABOUT THE STARS (0-2-0): Dallas watched two of its reinforcements make their NHL debuts on Saturday due to the team's early rash of injuries. Nick Caamano, a 21-year-old right wing who was a fifth-round pick in the 2016 draft, registered one hit in 11 minutes, 18 seconds of ice time, while 23-year-old center Rhett Gardner - a 2016 fourth-round selection - also delivered one hit in 12:04 of action. Defenseman Andrej Sekera recorded a team-high three blocked shots and finished with a plus-2 rating in the loss to St. Louis.

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (1-0-0): Bertuzzi put his name in the team's record book on Saturday as he matched the mark for most points in a season opener, which was last achieved when Mike Green notched four assists on Oct. 5, 2017 versus Minnesota. The 24-year-old left wing has recorded multiple points in five of his last seven games dating back to last season, when he was kept off the scoresheet in his final two contests after registering four consecutive three-point performances. The multi-goal effort on Saturday was the sixth in the NHL by Bertuzzi, who notched four last season and one in 2017-18.

OVERTIME

1. Heiskanen (seven) and fellow D John Klingberg combined to register 12 of the Stars' 29 shots on Saturday.

2. Detroit F Andreas Athanasiou (undisclosed) was scratched on Saturday despite participating in each of the team's last two practices.

3. Dallas recalled D Joel Hanley and RW Joel L'Esperance from Texas of the American Hockey League on Saturday, but both were healthy scratches against the Blues.

PREDICTION: Stars 4, Red Wings 2
