New York @ Arizona preview
Gila River Arena
Last Meeting ( Oct 24, 2019 ) Arizona 2, NY Islanders 4
The New York Islanders apparently have misplaced their luggage since they failed to bring any offense on the first two stops of their four-game road trip. The Islanders look to rebound after being shut out in consecutive contests on Monday afternoon when they visit the Arizona Coyotes, who sport a 6-1-3 record in their last 10 home games.
New York answered a pair of five-goal outbursts by dropping a 5-0 decision to Nashville on Thursday and a 1-0 setback to Vegas two nights later, with the two recent shutouts boosting that total to four on the season. "We've got to score a goal. We haven't scored a goal in two games," Islanders coach Barry Trotz told reporters. "You have to pressure them. I don't think we did that. It's a shame we wasted a good goaltending effort." Arizona received a strong one on Saturday from Antti Raanta, who bounced back from a tough outing in Ottawa by preventing Alex Ovechkin from making history in a 3-1 win over Washington. "(Raanta's) a pro, he's put in a lot of good games (for us) and he's a good bounce-back goalie, we had no doubt of starting him again," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet told the media.
TIME: 4 p.m. ET. TV: MSG Plus, FS Arizona
ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (33-18-6): New York hopes to locate its missing offense versus Arizona, against which it has collected at least a point in seven straight encounters (5-0-2). Brock Nelson, who leads the team with 21 goals, had two assists in the Islanders' 4-2 win over Arizona on Oct. 24 to boost his point total to 11 (five goals, six assists) in 13 career meetings with the Coyotes. Captain Anders Lee tallied in that contest against Arizona, but he joins Nelson in scoring just one goal this month.
ABOUT THE COYOTES (29-24-8): Christian Dvorak scored on Saturday to boost his point total to 10 (seven goals, three assists) over his last 14 games. Dvorak's 18 goals are one shy of the team lead held by Conor Garland, who is mired in a five-game goal drought after scoring in three consecutive contests to start the month. The 23-year-old Garland scored late in the third period to halve Arizona's deficit against New York earlier in the season.
