Edmonton @ Nashville preview

Bridgestone Arena

Last Meeting ( Feb 8, 2020 ) Nashville 2, Edmonton 3

The Nashville Predators won 14 of their previous 15 encounters with the Edmonton Oilers before Leon Draisaitl helped the latter win each of the first two meetings this season. Draisaitl looks to ride the momentum of becoming the first player to eclipse the 100-point plateau into Monday as the Oilers vie for a season sweep of the Predators in Nashville.

"Obviously I'm excited about it. It's a special milestone for me, but that's over now, now it's about making the playoffs," said Draisaitl, who scored two goals and set up another in Edmonton's 3-2 victory over Winnipeg on Saturday. The 24-year-old, whose NHL-best 102 points are three shy of his career high, collected two goals and an assist in the Oilers' 4-2 victory over Nashville on Jan. 14 and tallied twice in a 3-2 win versus the Predators on Feb. 8. While Edmonton is exchanging haymakers among the heavyweights in the top-heavy Pacific Division, Nashville was knocked down for the third time in its last nine contests (6-2-1) with a 3-2 setback to Colorado on Saturday. "We've got to take some of the lessons from this one, and then it's onto Edmonton," Predators coach John Hynes told reporters.

TIME: 8 p.m. ET. TV: FS Tennessee, Sportsnet, TVA

ABOUT THE OILERS (34-23-8): Mike Smith has put a disappointing December in his rear-view mirror by sporting an 11-1-4 mark over his last 16 starts, a stretch that includes turning aside 57 of 61 shots in a pair of victories over the Predators. "He's a competitive guy and he's a really good athlete," Ryan Nugent-Hopkins told reporters of the 37-year-old netminder. "He's good positionally, but those extra-effort saves, he can get there because he's so athletic. He just wants to win and compete, and that makes you want to compete in front of him." Nugent-Hopkins has 16 points (five goals, 11 assists) in his last 11 games, a run that began with two assists in last month's victory over Nashville.

ABOUT THE PREDATORS (32-24-8): Viktor Arvidsson scored for the second time in three games to account for 11 of his 15 goals this season being scored at Bridgestone Arena. The 26-year-old Swede, who is still a far cry removed from the franchise-best 34 he recorded last season, has yet to score in a pair of road games against Edmonton. Filip Forsberg has netted one of his club-best 18 goals versus the Oilers, although he failed to find the net throughout the month of February.

OVERTIME

1. Nashville D Ryan Ellis has scored a goal and set up seven others during his current four-game point streak.

2. Oilers captain Connor McDavid has four assists in the season series versus the Predators.

3. Nashville G Pekka Rinne sports a sterling 21-7-1 record with four shutouts in 32 career appearances (31 starts) against Edmonton.

PREDICTION: Predators 4, Oilers 3
