Last Meeting ( Apr 7, 2018 ) NY Islanders 4, Detroit 3

Gustav Nyquist has been surging offensively while his Detroit Red Wings have been earning points. Nyquist and the Red Wings hope to continue the trends when they host the slumping New York Islanders on Saturday.

The 29-year-old Nyquist has posted three multi-point performances over his last four contests and collected five goals and as many assists in his past six games. While the Swedish right wing has been terrorizing opposing goaltenders, Detroit has been increasing its point total, going 3-1-1 over its last five contests after recording a 5-4 overtime victory in Toronto on Thursday. New York, meanwhile, has had very little success in that same span as it has dropped two straight and four of its last five (1-3-1) following Thursday's 6-2 setback in Pittsburgh. One bright spot for the Islanders of late has been captain Anders Lee, who is riding a four-game goal-scoring streak after netting his team-leading 11th tally in the loss to the Penguins.

TV: 7 p.m. ET, MSG Plus (New York), FS Detroit

ABOUT THE ISLANDERS (13-11-3): Lee's goal on Thursday was his 22nd point, tying him with Josh Bailey for first on the club. Bailey has been kept off the scoresheet in four of his last five contests and each of his last two as he remains one point shy of 400 for his career. Brock Nelson also scored against Pittsburgh, giving him a double-digit goal total in each of his six seasons, and needs one assist to reach the century mark in the NHL.

ABOUT THE RED WINGS (13-12-4): With the help of Nyquist, Detroit has scored at least four goals in five of its last six contests. Defenseman Mike Green also has been an offensive factor for the team, collecting three goals and nine assists over his last 12 games. Dylan Larkin scored his third overtime goal of the campaign on Thursday, tying him with Herbie Lewis (1933-34), Steve Yzerman (2000-01) and Brendan Shanahan (2003-04) for the franchise record for most in a season.

OVERTIME

1. Red Wings D Niklas Kronwall registered a game-high six blocked shots Thursday as he skated in his 900th NHL contest.

2. New York has gone 0-for-19 on the power play over its last nine games and is just 4-for-48 since Nov. 1.

3. Detroit has lost four of its last five contests at home (1-2-2).

PREDICTION: Red Wings 4, Islanders 3
