Madison Square Garden

Last Meeting ( Jan 7, 2018 ) NY Rangers 1, Vegas 2

Teams coming off frustrating overtime losses after blowing three-goal leads get together at Madison Square Garden in New York on Sunday afternoon when the Rangers host the Vegas Golden Knights. New York fell to 2-5-2 in its last nine contests when ex-Ranger Derek Stepan scored 4:28 into overtime to snap Arizona's nine-game losing streak to New York with a 4-3 victory on Friday while Vegas lost for only the third time in 12 games (9-2-1) in a 5-4 setback at New Jersey.

"I think when we got up 3-0, the boys thought it was over and we just stopped skating,'' Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant told reporters. "You can't stop skating against a team like New Jersey." The Rangers endured a similar stretch to start the season (3-7-1) and coach David Quinn hopes his club can find a way to turn things around. "I know we got a point (Friday) but boy, it doesn't feel like we got anything,'' Quinn told reporters. "We've got to figure it out. We've got to get back to playing 60 minutes and not letting the situation dictate how we're going to play. ..." Vegas' Marc-Andre Fleury (18-10-2, 2.57 goals-against average .907 save percentage) could be between the pipes as he tries again to join Tony Esposito in ninth place on the all-time wins list with 423 but might yield to Malcolm Subban with the Golden Knights concluding their road trip Monday in Columbus.

TV: 12:30 p.m. ET, NHL Network, Sportsnet; AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain (Vegas), MSG (New York)

ABOUT THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS (18-14-2): William Karlsson scored twice against New Jersey and has four of his team-high 13 goals this season during a three-game streak. Karlsson shares the club point lead at 26 with Jonathan Marchessault, who has two goals and three assists in his last five games after providing two helpers Friday. Max Pacioretty missed Friday's game with an undisclosed injury while Paul Stastny, who signed a three-year, $19.5 million deal during the offseason, returned after missing the last 30 contests with a lower-body injury and had two shots in 16 minutes, 53 seconds of ice time.

ABOUT THE RANGERS (14-13-4): Mats Zuccarello, who led the club with 53 points last season, returned after missing seven games and 13 of the last 15 with a groin injury and had an assist while a minus-2 in 22:30. Kevin Hayes, whose 23 points are second on the team to Mika Zibanejad (27), recorded a goal and an assist Friday, and has three of each in his last three games. Henrik Lundqvist (10-9-4, 2.83, .914) has yielded at least four goals in his last three games after doing so only once in his previous 12 appearances.

OVERTIME

1. New York has allowed at least one power-play goal in each of the last five games, killing 14-of-21 penalties during that span, while its power play erupted for a season-high three goals Friday after going 2-for-20 in the previous 10 contests.

2. Rangers D Adam McQuaid (lower body) could return after missing the last 21 games.

3. The clubs split their two meetings in Vegas' inaugural season of 2017-18 with the home team prevailing each time.

PREDICTION: Rangers 3, Golden Knights 2
