Edmonton @ Vancouver preview
Rogers Arena
Last Meeting ( Sep 25, 2018 ) Vancouver 0, Edmonton 6
Connor McDavid has proven he is an offensive force over his first three seasons in the NHL, but his performance in 2018-19 is putting him on an even higher level. The reigning two-time Art Ross Trophy winner looks to extend his point streak to a season-high nine games when the Edmonton Oilers visit the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
McDavid enters the contest with his second eight-game run of the season, a stretch during which he has collected six goals and nine assists. The 21-year-old captain, who has registered back-to-back 100-point seasons, is tied for second in the league with 48 points - eight behind Colorado's Mikko Rantanen. Vancouver is riding a five-game point streak (4-0-1) after rolling past Philadelphia 5-1 on Saturday in the opener of its five-game homestand. Brock Boeser continued his strong play as he scored his fifth goal in four contests and added an assist for the Canucks, who saw 10 of their 12 forwards land on the scoresheet in the victory.
TV: 10 p.m. ET, Sportsnet West (Edmonton), Sportsnet Pacific (Vancouver)
ABOUT THE OILERS (18-12-3): Oscar Klefbom has the last two games and will be sidelined a while longer after undergoing successful surgery to repair broken bones in his left pinky finger Saturday. The 25-year-old Swedish defenseman, who was injured while blocking a shot in Tuesday's victory at Colorado, has recorded three goals and 12 assists in 31 contests this season. Leon Draisaitl has collected three goals and nine assists while posting four multi-point performances during his five-game point streak.
ABOUT THE CANUCKS (15-16-4): Elias Pettersson continued to make his case for the Calder Trophy on Saturday as he notched an assist against the Flyers. The 20-year-old Swede, who leads the team in goals (16), assists (18), points and game-winning goals (four), is riding a six-game point streak during which he has collected three goals and nine assists. Bo Horvat, who set up a goal Saturday, has gone more than one game without a point only once this campaign - a two-game stretch Oct. 25-27.
