Chicago @ Edmonton preview
Rogers Place
Last Meeting ( Nov 1, 2018 ) Chicago 0, Edmonton 4
The Chicago Blackhawks have returned from the All-Star break and league-mandated bye with a flourish, erupting for seven goals in their first contest back on the ice before notching an overtime win in their last outing. Winners of four in a row overall, the Blackhawks bid for a sweep of their three-game road trip on Tuesday when they visit the skidding Edmonton Oilers.
"We put ourselves in a spot where it's time to go on a run," captain Jonathan Toews said. "We've got confidence, we went into the break playing and feeling well, we're coming out of the break, same thing." Patrick Kane extended his point streak to 11 games (nine goals, 17 assists) after setting up Toews' power-play tally in the third period during Saturday's 4-3 overtime win versus Minnesota. While Chicago has elevated in the standings, Edmonton returned from its prolonged break by dropping back-to-back overtime decisions to extend its losing skid to five games (0-3-2). "It's disappointing to play this well on this road trip (and not get a victory)," coach Ken Hitchcock said. "We pretty much maxed out but we need wins not one-pointers."
TV: 9 p.m. ET, WGN (Chicago), Sportsnet West (Edmonton)
ABOUT THE BLACKHAWKS (20-24-9): Alex DeBrincat is on pace to blow his impressive 28-goal rookie season out of the water, as the 21-year-old scored on Saturday for the 15th time in 22 games to boost his current goal total to 26. DeBrincat also set up a pair of power-play tallies versus the Wild to give him nine points during his last five contests. Defenseman Eric Gustafsson capped a two-goal performance by scoring 1:19 into overtime on Saturday, giving him 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) in his last 21 games.
ABOUT THE OILERS (23-24-5): Captain Connor McDavid, who scored 53 seconds into overtime of Edmonton's 2-1 win over Chicago on Oct. 28, padded his team-leading totals in goals (31), assists (45) and points (76) with two goals and four assists during his current four-game point streak. Although Leon Draisaitl scored twice in Sunday's 4-3 overtime loss to Montreal, his pass to McDavid on a 2-0 breakaway in overtime caromed off the latter's skate before the Canadiens ended the contest on the very next shift. Draisaitl has erupted for seven points (five goals, two assists) in his last four games overall and set up a goal in both the Oilers' overtime win over Blackhawks as well as their 4-0 romp on Nov. 1.
