The Prudential Center in Newark hosts UFC 316 tonight. It’s a supremely entertaining card, headlined by two title bouts.
Below, I break down the UFC odds for three fights in my UFC parlay picks and predictions for this Saturday, June 7 card.
Best UFC 316 parlay picks
Serghei Spivac by submission
The UFC 316 prelims feature a heavyweight bout between ranked contenders Serghei Spivac and Waldo Cortes-Acosta. The latter has had a tremendous run in the UFC so far, posting a 6-1 record through his first seven fights.
However, the level of competition has been low, and Spivac presents a major step up. He boasts a strong ground game and will control Cortes-Acosta on the mat.
Spivac has shared the Octagon with some of the best heavyweights in the world — an experience that Cortes-Acosta simply lacks. He also possesses effective judo, which he can leverage to get the fight to the ground.
Once there, Spivac will dominate and ultimately secure a submission. Each of his past two wins has come via submission.
Azamat Murzakanov by KO/TKO
Immediately following the Spivac fight, No. 12-ranked light heavyweight Azamat Murzakanov returns against Brendson Ribeiro.
Murzakanov is a fast, talented striker with tremendous distance management, and he’s getting a favorable matchup against Ribeiro. He’s one of the biggest favorites on the card for good reason.
Murzakanov is athletic and powerful, with his only real concern being cardio in later rounds. However, that’s unlikely to be a factor in this matchup, as the fight is priced at -700 not to go the distance.
Ribeiro has been knocked out in three of his past four losses by weaker competition than Murzakanov.
Joshua Van by decision
The featured prelim sees Joshua Van take on Bruno Silva in a battle between ranked flyweight contenders. This figures to be one of the most entertaining fights of the night, though Van carries a hefty -700 price tag.
The best way to get a better number on the heavy favorite is to back him by decision.
At just 23, Van’s ceiling is sky high. He improves with every fight, particularly on defense and in his head movement. Van’s offense has never been in question, and his striking output is a judge’s dream.
However, he doesn’t possess overwhelming power, which is why five of his six UFC wins have come by decision. What he does have is speed and precision, both of which should be a step ahead of Silva.
If Van can avoid Silva’s power shots, he should dictate the pace and earn another decision victory.
