UFC Fight Night Rose Namajunas vs Miranda Maverick Predictions, Picks & Odds

Rose Namajunas is the more complete fighter and unless Miranda Maverick can force extended grappling exchanges, this will easily go "Thug Rose's" way.

Rose Namajunas vs. Miranda Maverick is the co-main event of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night and one of our featured MMA betting attractions this weekend. Namajunas, a former two-time strawweight champion, continues her flyweight campaign as she looks to fend off a rising prospect in Maverick, who looks to prove herself among the elite.

Namajunas is favored to win as a -250 favorite, while Maverick’s recent 4-1 means little for bettors as she is a +195 underdog in the UFC odds.

Here are my free UFC Fight Night: Namajunas vs. Maverick picks from Atlanta on Saturday, June 14.

Namajunas vs Maverick prediction and best bet

Fight analysis
The jury is still out on whether "Thug Rose" can truly make a run at flyweight, but she’s already shown it’ll take a special kind of fighter to beat her in this new division. Miranda Maverick is stepping up for what might be the toughest fight of her career since her well-aged loss to Jasmine Jasudavicius two years ago. She's hoping this is the kind of high-profile win that pushes her into true contention.

After a genuinely dreadful showing against Carla Esparza, especially considering it followed back-to-back wins over Zhang Weili, Rose Namajunas dropped down to flyweight and nearly beat Manon Fiorot in her divisional debut. Though she lost to top contender Erin Blanchfield last November, she’s sandwiched that loss between dominant wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez.

We've seen flashes of her former title-winning form, but it’s also clear that she lacks the physicality to consistently hang with the most powerful flyweights.

That’s where Maverick may have an edge. Her game is built around her grappling, and she averages 2.39 takedowns per 15 minutes. However, her striking remains limited, and when she can’t get the fight to the mat, she struggles to create offense.

Maverick also tends to freeze when pushed backward or when forced into extended striking exchanges, making her style somewhat one-dimensional, which cost her in previous fights where a win would have brought her to the next level.

Namajunas still carries championship-level instincts and is the more complete fighter. While mental lapses have haunted her in the past, it’s hard to see her engaging Maverick in extended grappling when she’ll likely find success keeping the fight at range. Maverick may not capitalize on Namajunas’ typically slow starts, and if she can’t cut the cage and force grappling exchanges early, this could get away from her quickly.

Namajunas is the pick.

Best bet analysis
These are the types of fights where Maverick’s limitations get exposed. Though Namajunas isn’t a fast starter, Maverick’s striking inefficiencies and inability to adjust in extended stand-up exchanges make her vulnerable to getting picked apart over three rounds.

Expect some tense early moments, but this should settle into a technical fight where Namajunas edges out rounds with superior striking and movement to win by decision.
