Edmen Shahbazyan vs. Andre Petroski is a featured undercard attraction of this weekend’s UFC Fight Night on June 14.
These two middleweights always bring the fireworks, and my Shahbazyan vs. Petroski predictions don't expect this fight to go the distance, with the UFC odds favorite getting his arm raised when it's all said and done.

Fight analysis
Try as he might, Edmen Shahbazyan can’t seem to break out of the middling tier of middleweights, and he’s shown little growth in addressing the glaring flaws that have plagued him for years.
While he remains an explosive striker with nimble footwork, his conditioning and wrestling defense continue to be major liabilities. Surprisingly, he's entering this fight as the favorite over Petroski, whose grappling game directly targets Shahbazyan’s weakest areas.
This isn’t a matchup that will propel the winner into contention, but a loss could put either man’s UFC future in jeopardy.
Shahbazyan hasn’t come close to recapturing the form he showed during his early UFC rise, where he rattled off first-round knockouts and earned the “Golden Boy” moniker. That momentum crashed in a one-sided loss to Derek Brunson, and since then, he’s consistently fallen short against opponents with strong chins and solid grappling.
He’s become a front-running headhunter who aggressively looks for the knockout early, but if he doesn’t find it, he tends to gas out and unravel, especially once the fight hits the mat or enters the second round.
Though he’s coming off a first-round TKO win over Dylan Budka last February, he’s been alternating wins and losses since 2022.
Petroski has the physicality and skill set to expose Shahbazyan’s weaknesses, but he’s far from bulletproof himself. All three of his professional losses have come by knockout, and his weak chin is an easy target for Shahbazyan’s power shots.
He’s also been prone to costly lapses in judgment, most memorably when he knocked himself out while overshooting a takedown attempt against Jacob Malkoun.
Still, his wrestling and top control are strong enough to wear down Shahbazyan quickly if he can close the distance, and he carries enough power to keep the fight competitive on the feet until he does.
Both fighters possess the exact weapons needed to exploit the other’s flaws, but in a matchup this volatile, I trust Petroski’s chin less than I trust Shahbazyan’s cardio.
Best bet analysis
Petroski is always one clean shot away from being stopped, while Shahbazyan is one takedown away from hitting an early wall.
Neither fighter has the composure or technical know-how to slow things down to a crawl. Given how vulnerable both are to each other’s strengths, it’s too unpredictable to back a winner with confidence. My best bet is that this fight isn’t going the distance.
