One of my favorite and most memorable betting memories occurred on Monday Night Football just after I moved to Stamford, CT, in 2017. Kansas City was leading Washington by 3 points as a 7-point favorite with only seconds remaining in the game. The bartender shut off all TVs in the bar for closing and I pleaded and caused a ruckus asking him to power one TV back on for the final play. Just as he agreed, then-Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins started a lateral drill, which after several steps miraculously ended with Justin Houston scooping and scoring on a fumble recovery to deliver a miraculous cover. I talked to my buddy on the phone during my entire, gleeful walk home as he smoked a cigar outside with his family long asleep in the house.

Identifying a single bad beat is difficult, but an all-time entry occurred during the 2016 NCAA Tournament. My friends and I were standing on the floor at The Mirage — years before we were wise to reserved seating — cheering for an elite Wisconsin team alongside the hulking monolith of Bucky fans that descend on Vegas for the annual event. Wisconsin led Notre Dame late in their Sweet 16 game and we were counting cash and celebrating as novices when the Badgers first allowed a layup and then inexplicably lost the subsequent inbound pass, leading immediately to the Irish's go-ahead layup. It's no exaggeration to say that I had screamed "Bucky cashes!" at least 200 times throughout the day before that nightmarish finish.
