Wells Fargo Championship picks and predictions
Wyndham Clark Top 10 (+185)
Wyndham Clark has only grown in our estimations since winning for the first time here at Quail Hollow last year. He’s won twice since then, including a massive breakthrough victory at the 2023 U.S. Open.
More recently, he posted back-to-back runner-up finishes at the Arnold Palmer and THE PLAYERS, losing only to Scottie Scheffler both times. He did miss the cut at Augusta but got back on the saddle with a podium finish at Harbour Town two weeks ago.
That form has him third in this field in total strokes gained over the last three months with Top-15 ranks in every category except for around the green. He’s also first in driving distance over that span.
I’m expecting another strong week and a formidable title defense from what is now one of the best players in the world.
Pick: Wyndham Clark Top 10 (+185 at BetRivers)
Tommy Fleetwood Top 20 (-110)
The road to Tommy Fleetwood’s first PGA Tour win continues to be long and winding but he’s very much deserving of attention considering his recent track record here at Quail Hollow.
Between a T5 a season ago and a T14 in 2021, the Englishman has gained strokes in all four major categories in his last two tries. Last year, he ranked fifth in strokes gained tee-to-green and had the solo lead through 18 holes after an opening-round 65.
Combine that with some good form and you get a guy who could be contending again come Sunday afternoon. He has a Dubai Invitational victory and three other Top 10s over his last nine starts and among those is a T3 at the Masters just a couple of weeks back.
The -110 price is more than reasonable for a guy who checks all the boxes this week.
Pick: Tommy Fleetwood Top 20 (-110 at bet365)
Wells Fargo Championship field and favorites
His win at the Zurich Classic notwithstanding, it's been just a so-so start to the PGA Tour season for Rory McIlroy. He has just one other finish better than T19 in eight starts and was a non-factor at the Masters (T22).
With that said, he has three wins here at Quail Hollow and has logged six more Top-10 finishes in 12 career starts. He's a +800 betting favorite this week as a result.
Xander Schauffele sits second on the board at 10/1. He remains in excellent form and finished solo second here a season ago.
Young star Ludvig Aberg is third on the board with stock that continues to rise. He followed up his runner-up performance at the Masters with a T10 at Harbour Town. This will be his debut here at Quail Hollow, however.
Patrick Cantlay sits fourth at 18/1, followed by defending champion Wyndham Clark. Clark has finished T3 or better in three of his last five starts and led the field in strokes gained tee-to-green and strokes gained approach in his win a season ago.
