FIBA World Cup 2023 MVP Odds: Dennis is the Schroder Pick

Team USA was the favorite to win the 2023 FIBA World Cup, but that was before the Americans ran into Dennis Schroder and mighty Team Germany.

The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup is coming to a close in the Philippines.

Despite having a very young roster, the United States were the clear favorite, based on the FIBA World Cup odds board, to rebound from a disappointing 2019 showing that saw them leave without even a medal.

It's also no surprise that, given the early Americans' status as the odds-on chalk, the top of the FIBA World Cup 2023 MVP odds board was filled with players sporting the red, white, and blue for much of the tournament.

Anthony Edwards was the early favorite — but which of his teammates are behind him? And which non-Americans have the best chance to be named, well, the best?

Find out below with our latest odds to win the FIBA World Cup MVP.

FIBA World Cup 2023 MVP favorites

Anthony Edwards (+110)

The average age of Team USA is just 24.6 years old — and the 22-year-old Anthony Edwards perfectly embodies this team.

The dynamic Minnesota Timberwolves guard is a scoring machine, averaging a career-best 24.6 points per game in his third NBA season, while also posting career bests in both field goal and 3-point percentage.

While "Ant" gave way to Paolo Banchero's team-high 21 points in the opener vs. New Zealand, he was still effective with seven boards and three assists. Edwards was quiet against Greece (13 points) but bounced back big time with 22 points, eight boards, and four assists against Jordan.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (+300)

Watch out now! Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous Alexander came flying out of the gates with a 27-point, 13-rebound performance in a 30-point victory over France to kick things off for the Canadians.

SGA was a bit more scaled back in Canada's second game vs. Lebanon, but it was such a decisive victory (128-73) that he didn't need to suit up for the whole game, posting 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists in just over 17 minutes of action.

Game 3 against Latvia saw him drop 27 and he shined against Slovenia with a cool 31 points to push Canada into the semifinals for the first time in the country's history. He sits comfortably in the No. 2 spot as a result.

Dennis Schroder (+900)

Dennis Schroder has been the engine powering Germany's spectacular 6-0 start at the FIBA World Cup. The former Sixth Man of the Year is averaging 18 points per game and was especially clutch in the absence of Franz Wagner, who missed four games after suffering an ankle injury in the team's opener against Japan. Can he continue to rise to the occasion against the Americans in the semis?

Understanding basketball odds

Sportsbooks have already posted FIBA World Cup MVP futures, which are constantly adjusted based on player performance — and if injuries arise.

Basketball futures odds will usually look like this:

  • Jalen Brunson +700

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $700 if Brunson wins the MVP. If there is a particularly dominant player, you might see that a team has a minus sign (-) ahead of its odds.

  • Anthony Edwards -150

This means that if you bet on Edwards, you would need to bet $150 to profit $100 if he wins the award.

Above we have posted the American odds for the FIBA World Cup. However, these are easy to convert to decimal odds or fractional odds with our odds converter tool.
