Against the Spread (ATS) Pick
These inter-state programs met up last season with Oklahoma State coming away with a 40-21 victory. That 19-point win was Okie State's biggest margin of victory against an FBS foe, which might make you wary about taking them at -22.5 in this contest.
But don't be scared off by that line, OSU will be even better than last year. Sorry, Ohio State and Oregon State fans, but there won't be any confusion about which school we're talking about when we mention OSU this fall.
Heisman candidate (and Canadian) Chuba Hubbard decided to turn down the NFL and return for his senior year after leading the nation with 2,094 rushing yards in 2019. And quarterback Spencer Sanders should be more consistent after a solid first year where he was named Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.
In addition, Sanders should have No. 1 target Tylan Wallace back in action after a leg injury cut his 2019 season short. Wallace had 903 receiving yards through eight games last year following a 2018 season where he had 1,491 receiving yards.
As for Tulsa, they'll likely be even worse than a year ago. The Golden Hurricane's offense remains largely intact but their defense, which ranked 93rd in the country by surrendering 31.3 points per game, loses seven starters including five of their top six tacklers.
PREDICTION: Oklahoma State -22.5 (-110)
Over/Under Pick
While Oklahoma State should be able to put up points, there's plenty of reason to lean under the lofty total of 66. While Oklahoma State's defense had some rough performances last year, that's to be expected among the Big 12 Conference's video-game scoring, especially against schools like Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas.
For the most part, the Cowboys stop-unit held up, ending the season fifth in the conference in scoring defense. They should be even better this year as 12 of their top 13 tacklers return to the lineup.
Believe it or not, Hubbard isn't the Cowboys' only Canadian star, with linebacker Amen Ogbongemiga - and his team-leading 15.5 tackles for loss - combining with Malcolm Rodriguez to form a devastating linebacker duo. Add in stud safeties Kolby Harvell-Peel and Tre Sterling, and Tulsa won't find it easy to put up points in this contest.
With the Cowboys going 4-0 to the Under in their last four contests and the Golden Hurricane cashing the Under in seven straight out-of-conference games, back the Under again.
PREDICTION: Under 66 (-110)
First Quarter Bet
The Golden Hurricanes' offense showed promise in 2019 and their effective trio of quarterback Zach Smith, running back Shamari Brooks and receiver Keylon Stokes returns this season. However, their offensive line struggled, and even with Smith and company, they had a difficult time scoring early in games.
Tulsa averaged just 3.4 first-quarter points per game against FBS foes, which ranked 120th in the nation. Oklahoma State was 19th in the country in scoring defense during the first 15 minutes, holding opponents to 4.2 ppg in the opening frame.
Expect another slow start from Tulsa and back the Pokes on the first-quarter spread.
PREDICTION: First Quarter Oklahoma State -7 (-110)
