It was definitely fixed for many
reasons but they did a good job at making it look real. If you haven't
figured it out already, it's all entertainment, therefore it's all
controlled (fixed).
Things to know to tell that it was fixed:
1)Fight never officially started after point was deducted from headbutt.
Yeah the ref put them together but never officially told them to start
(ref was still checking on either the point deductions or time keeper).
The ref must keep his eyes on the fight at all times.
2)As we all know, Mayweather has no punching power and seeing as how he
supposedly knocked out Ortiz in two punch didn't add up. Ortiz could
have easily made the 10 count seeing as it was only the 4th round and
Ortiz had plenty of energy and was taking all of Mayweather's shots with
no problem.
3)Although the two shots weren't legal (and trust me, they weren't) the
ref was told to count by some random guy at ringside. Afterward, the ref
was nowhere to be found for questioning.
4)Usually the ref would give a warning for an accidental headbutt but
seeing how Ortiz did it on purpose, a point was deducted. Totally
understandable. Now lets look back at Roy Jones Jr.'s disqualification
for hitting after the bell. No different here. Mayweather hits Ortiz
before fight was officially restarted, therefore Mayweather should have
been disqualified, but this is fixed so no.
5)The biggest giveaway that this fight was completely fixed, was Ortiz's
calm reaction afterward. With about two clear open opportunities to
cheap shot mayweather back after the fight, Ortiz chose to smile about
everything. Now let's be honest, if this was real, any sane person would
have used those opportunities two cheap shot Mayweather back after the
match. This goes to show that it was never personal and it was all a
premeditated fixed fight.

Ortiz was calm after Maidana. He did intentional headbutt out of frustration. he stayed down because getting up to take a beating he knows is coming. If Floyd has no power, why hasn't any previous opponent stated, and every fight no one bullies him which they would if they didn't fear getting KOd. Ref mistakes happen a dozen times per fight, the bigger the fight the more confusion. Read the book "Sway" about the psychology aspects of that.
Otherwise it was entertaining for post... keep posting. GL

bbopu5:First off, I was in a rush when I replied but I wasn't criticizing your view just I disagree. I will do it slightly more organized now that I have time in a numbered list as you did. Everyone has different opinions and I seem to be in the middle of many disagreements, but it's also a great way to learn because if everyone agrees then many angles are missed. Back to your post: Although I believe money rules and I've posted about it and boxing is very crooked, sometimes the perceptions are misinterpreted.
1.Refs even as pros make mistakes and in major fights. As strange as it seems the pressure and many things are going on and sometimes it's a mistake and sometimes it's on purpose. The fight was going according to Mayweather's control and nearing the 4th round frustration for Victor set in as he couldn't land and was taking clean shots. Yes after the intial corner hug and Cortez held Ortiz's hand and turned to each judge tapping his head and point one finger for a deduction. After that he clapped his hands together which signaled the fight to continue. As the fighters came together Mayweather was ready to fight and Ortiz hold his forearms down and wanted to hug again (Mayweather did reluctantly) and during this Cortez was looking at the time keeper and Ortiz was looking at Cortez. Why? Cortez already took the point and clapped his hands for them to fight. The 2nd hug and Ortiz was clueless and stepped back as Mayweather hit a 1-2 punch and Ortiz went down. He looked up when he was dropped and his eyes looked clear but his expression said "enough". Ref did nothing wrong as Ortiz broke the #1 rule "PROTECT YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES". Ali vs Liston II was a total controvery and a mess. Walcott had no clue Liston didn't beat the count, he let them fight for a moment, then stepped in and declared fight over as Ali wins by KO. I realize this is many years ago, but boxing is much the same as they hire judges to keep score and I have no idea what some of their credentials are or requirements. Often I think they watched a different fight or got fighters mixed up.
2. I believe Ortiz could have made the count as the combo was fast, accurate and had 50% power. Floyd just quickly responded to take advantage of the situation. Saying Ortiz had plenty of energy and was taking all Mayweather's punches is not totally accurate. He took some good shots, but Floyd's style is he breaks a guy down systematically then later uses power shots. Ortiz although active looked fatigued as he was an open target for Floyd's lead right hand. I never heard a Floyd opponent state he lacked power. Although he's not known for early KO's, he fights safe like he chooses opponents safely. Middle to late rounds Floyd uses power punches is he has felt the strongest punch his opponent has and his opponent is to fatigued to capitalize if Floyd missed a big shot exposing himself. You can say what you want but he broke down Hatton (who crushed an old Castillo; I was playing poker at the Venetian and had to run down the street for the fight) and landed a left hook that dropped Hatton and that was about it. When an undefeated (only down once prior) accomplished fighter takes a beating like that often never psychologically recovers. Now Manny fought Hatton after and walked through him in Manny style. Even though Manny would have wrecked Hatton the Mayweather beating showed. One note on Ortiz: The effects of gaining nearly 20lbs in one day show how much he had to starve and dehydrate himself before the weigh-in, and then re-hydrate. This has a huge effect of stamina and Victor was starting to feel it. Talking about power earlier, if Floyd lacked punching power and Ortiz intentionally gained all that weight for more power but sacrificing speed it doesn't make sense. You feel Floyd has not punching power, so why didn't Ortiz stay at a lower weight and not risk losing speed and stamina if he had such a power advantage? I think he had weight problems and wanted to be a little bigger in the ring, so it would be a little bit of both!
3. Once the ref claps his hands and says fight, unless he says anything or steps in between, any legitimate (no rabbit, backhand, etc...) punches thrown are totally legal. Watch the fight as it shows Cortez after the deduction give the hand signal to fight. Even though Cortez should have been watching the action (incase a headbutt, a slip, etc...) doesn't mean the fighters stop.
4. The 4th round Mayweather was winning clearly and Ortiz lunged forwarded with his head at 2:23 in the 4th and Cortez stepped in and told him to watch his head. Around 2:08 and at 1:19 the same things happened with the lunging head. Ortiz on the last headbutt jumped up and it was a very serious headbutt. I've seen many accidental, many intentional, some are in the middle because of styles, but if he hit Floyd with that Headbutt clean in the right spot, that fight would have stopped at that point and Ortiz disqualified and probably suspended. Since it glanced Floyd but was so intentional and dangerous a point was deducted (many argue such flagrant and possibly harmful foul that if it did the damage for a DQ, should be a 2-point deduction). I will post a nice write-up from maxboxing about the incident.
5. The relaxed disposition is the Ortiz acts normally. Although in pre-fight interviews he showed intensity and confidence, but after a severe beating from Maidana, he was relaxed when he said he didn't deserve to get beat up like this. He is a nice guy with a very relaxed attitude. He found a reason to quit as he was realizing he wasn't going to win and didn't want to get hurt like he did against Maidana. It might sound unreasonable for a prize fighter, but the nick name "Viscious" doesn't reflect his mental attitude but maybe his more devastating style versus 2nd rate opponents.
- I truly believe he meant no harm to Floyd with the headbutt. He finally had Floyd in a corner where he wanted to let his hands fly and Floyd held on, so being inexperienced (as I said was his 2nd biggest downfall) he couldn't get loose so he jumped hoping Floyd would raise his hands allowing his arms to be free and punch (not even thinking that if it did happen, Cortez would have stopped the action anyways and that shows the frustration and inexperience). I think the kid should retire (even with all his talents) because his mindset is not made for boxing. The two times he felt he was getting beaten and it would get worse he quit. I don't consider Berto in that category because he felt Berto couldn't hurt him enough and he was right. The only suprise in that fight to me was Berto's heart as he took much harder shots and was fatigued but kept swinging. https://www.maxboxing.com/news/sub-lead/mayweather-ortiz-instant-karma-or-greatness-self-denied

Why would I say that if that's what he believes. I tried very intricately to show him facts that refute his post. There is a slim possibility he could be correct.

1) 8 seconds was on the clock when it stopped for the headbutt. Ref brings them center ring, Mayweather knocks him out. There is no saved by the bell in this fight.
2) Mayweather can knock anyone out. Especially at 147. That, combined with not being ready and not expecting those hits...that right hand was vicious....that would knock anyone out.
4) That wouldn't have stopped a fight. Maybe 1-2 points taken off, but Floyd even showed the ref he had a small cut inside his lip on the left side, it wasn't too bad. Not enough to stop a fight.
Floyd will beat Khan next probably in March, April or May, and then fight Pac Man

OK...so a guy making 40 million wants to cheat for a limited suspect wager? If Ortiz's family was betting Mayweather by 4th KO... I'd start listening. You must know there is a maximum and on props, and vegas has low limits as opposed to offshore. Makes no sense!

That's 100% false. There are very, very, very few books you can get solid boxing action down at. Bookmaker/DSI is probably #1. The best and most comprehensive boxing betting site, 5dimes, has a limit that you can only bet 1k on an underdog (major fights) or to win 1k on a favorite. Some of the props (ITD, points, etc) are often limited to $100 per prop. It takes a few accounts to even get serious action down.
If you're in the US, you aren't getting down a couple grand without a ton of work and/or multiple books. In Vegas you could drop that without blinking.

walktheline: I miss your point. Tell me a sportsbook in vegas besides Stardust that has taken large wagers in the past 10 years. At Bellagio they allowed me to bet Cotto -240 over Quintanna even though they normally don't allow boxing wagers outside the Nevada State Athletic Commission Control Board. I was a VIP customer so they allowed me 4800 maximum, and I was told they had to do it through the Borgatta for official reasons. Even the pull I had with big names it was hard to get 24k wager. Maybe you know something I don't about sportsbooks in Vegas. They simply set low maximums because they don't want heavy hitters like when they got raped by bettors in the 70's and 80's with baseball. I know friends who started booking BIG in Henderson for the simple fact they didn't mind the action and they were a NY crew that had connections to layoff wagers. What is 100% false?

My point is that there isn't anywhere online to get large boxing wagers down. You can bet 5k on a FNF almost anywhere in Vegas. There isn't anywhere online that even approaches Vegas as far as limits go.
It's almost impossible find a big limit online. IF you do, (like BM or DSI) how the hell would you feel comfortable? They've already had their main domain names seized. 5dimes limits everything. That's pretty much it. If you're in the US and want to "get down" on a fight, there isn't anywhere to turn. As I've stated before, if you find a book willing to take moderate action (1k+ on a wager) have fun keeping a bankroll there.

I agree about it has become very difficult to get down large bets. I was in Vegas I think it was Dec 2006 for the Cotto fight and they had the odds on the board, but weren't taking action because the fight wasn't in Nevada. I knew quite a bit regarding betting, but didn't know Vegas sportsbooks aren't allowed to take action (or it's a casino rule) outside Nevada because of the State Commission. I don't bet large wagers usually in Las Vegas but it was last minute and I wanted to get as much as possible down. Also, in 2005 Pinnacle use to allow certain clients to bet 100k per game on NFL & College Football Bowl games. Also, this kid was 21 and had a VIP account without full collateral. He bankrolled from 1k into +6 million in less than 4 months, but being young and brave can also lead to naive behavior. I told him to pocket 3 million in secure funds, use 2 million for poker bankroll, use the 1 million for sports (which I knew he would lose), but he was betting 250k per game with near 2 million a day in action, and in 5 weeks he was -2.5 million. That was the last I heard from him. Not even Gee (owner of Cirque du Soleil) bet like that. He would lose around 300k at poker, than maybe a million at BlackJack, but earning 850k a day (Forbes) I guess he could afford it. Many people wondered why he would max his loss at poker 300k, but blow millions at house games... simple psychology - losing money at house games wasn't personal, but losing millions at poker to people is a pride thing for him and he didn't want to feel like he was the sucker at the table. The now Ponzi accused site Full Tilt Poker, during 2007-2008 and some 2009, there was 5 poker accounts no one knew who these accounts were (rare in high stakes poker), but these combined account originated from the same area and combined lost 34 million, and the only player I know that can lose that much was him. He didn't mind online because no one actually knows 100% if it was him and online it didn't seem personal to him especially using different accounts, but it's almost certain.I didn't know if you knew much regarding the Poker world, but just a story that you won't read in any articles I know of but maybe blogs. BTW- After establishing good reputation, FirePay use to advance me 25k daily for 5 days (125k total) without ever taking it out of my bank immediately. They charged a whopping flat rate of $4.99 for every $2,500 (lol). It took them 5 days to take it out. I did an accidental check bounce for 38k (my highest), but they had the wrong account info and I never updated and transferred the funds prior, so I just sent it 24 hours after the CEO called me from England. Funny because the transfers were considered illegal (even though allowed at the time by banks) and they send you an email letter that sounds like prosecution but in reality I could have said F$#% OFF without any legal action. I have a story regarding a fixed sporting event I had prior knowledge off... if you want to hear that I will post it or PM it to you.

On this site, you never know if someone is joking or for real. I don't accuse anyone of lying or being wrong, I just voice (type) my view. I have a real story on a fixed soccer game that I had knowledge the day before, but most people wouldn't believe it. It was a B-Level League game (Europe) and Pinnacle had odds at that time. Unfortunately, they had the game with the flag (meaning no parlay or different maximum bet than their standard). I was able to bet on Pinnacle a major $272 (lol), as that entire league apparently was all capped at $272. I have no idea why such an odd number but Id assume they have their reasons. I was told the small favorite -140 would win 1-0. The Total was 2.5 at Under -120. So I bet $272 at the Under -120 so I'd win a little more (lol). Apparently they knew would I knew... that minor league games are easily fixed!!! I take it they allowed action to appease customers and still carry the reputation as the #1 sportsbook at the time. Back then 5dimes and other sportsbooks didn't have such a large variety of games and props. I forget exactly which other English trade site I used (for those unfamiliar with it) where you make your own line and how much you are willing to invest and someone can buy your bet (the opposite of what you think will win) and they charged the seller 1 to 2 % broker fee. Naturally, I deposited and placed my wager (and anyone can buy part or all of my amount) and got ZERO action. For those familair with minor league soccer, I assume it's a common thing with fixed games. I wouldn't know as I don't follow the minor leagues only English Premiere, UEFA, EURO, and naturally FIFA WC~. Anyone with a story similar I'd be glad to hear it. Maybe we should make a new thread about fixed events... then again it might get way to much BS. Anyone remember Arizona State NCAA hoops team caught cheating in the early 90s???

Thanks Skipbone, but not a talent I can say I'm impressed with myself. FYI- I learned as a young kid how to program the early model computers and got fast at typing (data entry), but I established bad habits using improper typing technique.
I do wish someone remembered ASU basketball cheating allegations and can comment about any experience with real fixes?. I think it was mid 90's and not sure which hoop team was accused of cheating (shaving points and deliberately losing, and they admitted it after; it wasn't Northwestern I was thinking of where two players had to serve a month in Federal Prison for fixing games). I was talking to my main bookie the day the scandal broke news and apparently he had more than several customers (or call them degenerate gamblers) that wanted refunds when they so called bet the team that lost in a fixed game. He explained that the other people who bet the winner in the fix still got paid and he wasn't getting refunds from them. They thought in someway if a game was fixed, the bookie has a bigger advantage. Yes, I know it makes no sense and it is just the opposite. It just goes to show how lacking the basic gambling fundamentals (bankroll management, game & wager selection, etc) that people betting NFL are suprised and don't understand why they lose every season (lol). "Never under-estimate the stupidity of the general betting public!"

In boxing the ref controls the start and stop action
By the looks of it he told them to box he don't need to say box he just needs to signal, bringing them in means box
Maidana even after all the dirty fighting he got right to work every round and still lost dela hoya was the more active puncher and he lost so activity means nothing
Ortiz had his head down and walked right up to Floyd after being told to box what was the ref doing why was he not paying attention never the less Mayweather don't cheat Ortiz was being foolish maybe someone told Ortiz to take a dive but who knows unless they say it
