I've made 2 Max plays on boxing before with Bernard Hopkins over Antonio Tarver Nonito Donare over Montiel
my third one will be Chad Dawson over Benard Hopkins
Hopkins has always had problems with athletic boxers that have fast hands. I think if Dawson can stay focus which I believe he will, should be able to get a comfortable decision win. I think Hopkins actually avoided Dawson for as long as he could but he figures its the time to fight him now.

I think Hopkins didn't bother with Dawson for many reaons. One because fighting opponents like Pavlik, etc... are bigger names for the average fan although Dawson has been his biggest threat. A second reason was Hopkins wanted to see the progression of Dawson and also so weak areas he feel he might be able to exploit. Yes Hopkins is a freak of nature, and he's always kept in great shape and never abused his body outside or inside the ring. Facts are facts and he is 46. I don't make excuses regarding his losses to Taylor, as Jermain had great athletics and was able to outwork him, but the fact remains that Hopkins was struggling to make the 160lbs weight limit. You think it is coincidence that he fights Tarver at 174lbs of shredded just six months later and dominated him. He has stayed at that weight for over five years and fought the best in the weight class and only lost one time (Split-Decision) to Calzaghe in eight bouts. I watched the fight and felt Hopkins clearly lost to the fast handed and somewhat unorthodox style. I don't say this only because Calzaghe was a southpaw, but he had an unconventional style that made fighters look bad. Now, even after returning one fight after his first defeat, Dawson's media attraction has risen, while previously when he was undefeated and considered #3 in some pound-for-pound lists, but he remained still relatively unknown to the general public. Now, what some say is a controversial loss as Pascal appeared hurt just as the time of the accidental headbutt. Overall, I think it's good timing for Hopkins as he may have learned a little more regarding Dawson and also generating a larger purse.

We need some discussion on this topic. I am only looking at the over on this fight so far. This fight looks so tight. Who is taking who and why?
I assume the question was to me (assuming also my name was a spell error likewise).

There are roughly a half dozen threads with the topic of Hopkins-Dawson. The fight is this Saturday (10/15/11) and SawLomade a good point that we should condense the majority of the similar information, thus providing a more organized and easier way to access critical information. I will create a new thread adding previous post information and links so members can not only read the information posted, but in what context were they stated or replying.

I have been thinking about this one a lot and have changed my pick, I can write and 1000 word essay why, but I will keep it simple and simply use 1 word, HOPKINS, dawson has lost his fire, his desire, just watch his fights vs pascal and diacanu, he has gotten worse as opposed to improving, if this was the dawson that fought say adamek than I would say dawson, but I don't think that he really wants to be a fighter anymore, he does it because it's his job. bernard is the hungrier fighter in this one and will counter dawson's pawing jabs with right hands all night, dawson won't out box bernard and he does not seem to have the heart and desire to make it a war, I see him going down tamely and losing and un.dec. and it won't be that hard either. to add a quote from emanuel stewart, dawson cares more about spending time with his family at this point, rather than building a legacy for himself, to some that's good thing, but at this level it simply won't cut it.

lol, hopkins will whoop dawson ass all day! i still dont understand why people thinks dawson has a chance against hopkins. dawson gets hit a lot in the inside and his defense suk, hopkins will land at will on the inside, hes just to smart for dawson, johnson hurt dawson and gave him a very good fight, just imagine what hopkins will do to this guy.
i totally agree soulpurpose dawson is not as fast as before and his only option right now is to fight hopkins and take the risk thats all.
hopkins will make history again, hes motivated and will frustrate dawson on saturday.

Dawson clearly stated and truthfully never wanted or felt comfortable in the rematch with Johnson. Although he was hurt and it was much closer fight the initial match-up, he was hurt for a reason... Johnson is a hard big hitter and Hopkins is not even close in that department. Hopkins punches accurate and crisp and frustrates many opponents. Simply put, Johnson has one punch KO power at anytime during a bout and this causes fighters hesitation.

ZOUK, johnson does not have one punch power at all, (if your thinking roy jones, any fighter at that point would of had one punchpower against him. he was shot) it's dawson's fights vs diancanu and pascal that have me picking bernard, dawson fought with no passion at all, add to the fact that his former trainer manny stewart basically said that his heart was not in it any more, that all he really cares about is spending time with his family, dawson made a few million in the game, he has set himself and his family up for life, that all some guys really want, they look at it like a job and that's it, they don't have that burning desire to become a legend, very few fighter do actually, hopkins certainly has it and it will show come sat. HOPKINS, will win this one easy,

I will now watch the past several Dawson fights (and Johnson's bouts), and also see how both fighters appear physically and mentally at the weigh-ins to gain a grasp of their current state of mind. My reference to Johnson is that he is the hardest puncher of a small group of the top light heavyweights. If what you say has any validity regarding the passion of Dawson, as that then takes away the key advantage of being the more active fighter in this bout. To the video I go in search of pertinent information! I will keep posting any info I find that holds important.

I don't think Johnson or Hopkins are power punchers at 175. Johnson just seem to overwhelm people and has a sneaky right hand while Hopkins has a precise and underrated right hand. I think Dawson wins the early and middle rounds easily..it really depends how he finishes. He kind of just zones out at times and goes through the motions. I think he will be up for this challenge.
