Clottey/Cotto

Cotto, took the wrong fight, I always question managers, when they pick the ONE fighter who you shouldn't take. Clottey is a very good fighter, and has a good defense.

 Clottey was doing really well in the Margarito fight until round 4 where he hurt his left hand, after that he retreated but could of quit and didn't.

His other loss was a DQ against Carlos Baldmoir  which he was way ahead got DQ for "coming inside with his head" and did it again in round 11 and got DQ'd.

I believe Clottey is the better overall boxer,  jab wise and counter puncher  and defensive fighter. Cotto is the better body Puncher, and heavier Puncher. This has a making to be a GREAT fight!

Styles make fights and this one could be a great one, Clottey even though  more of a defensive fighter, does slug in spurts! I like his defense, and his counter punching.  All that said means nothing betting wise read the following... below..


Being Cotto is clearly the crowd favorite, fighting in MSG, and guess what a DAY before the Puerto Rican Day Parade! I would believe Clottey would need a KO to WIN,  so if people take Clottey, realistically.. you're forced to bet him by  KO.

NO way is he getting a "close round" the Day before the P.R day Parade and at MSG where Cotto Calls home.

Since Clottey has never been Knocked out, and has a good defense, Cotto takers best bet is Cotto by decision!

Is Cotto LOOKING ahead? I will read a snippet from a website I was browsing when looking for odds for the Cotto/Clottey fight.. this is what was said.

"Pacquiao will be sitting ringside for Miguel Cotto's June bout against Joshua Clottey. Cotto says he wants the fight and believes he can box and move against Pacquiao."

I got it from Queensbury rules or something, not a big site, but Freddie Roach came on ESPN tonight, pretty much saying, "We're not waiting for Floyd" basically they mean they're taking the money route.

 I understand he had a great training camp (pacman) and had an easy fight basically he could fight .. in 2 months... but why would pac-man be at the Cotto fight.. Cotto doesn't fight till June13 (and a VERY TOUGH FIGHT), and Mayweather Fights in July, and Mayweathers fight will be EASIER in my opinion!

Who is Pac-man going to fight while waiting for Cotto and May weather, Roach keeps yelling Mosley, but Mosley would be a TOUGHER  fight than COTTO! He's fast, great chin, nice jab, good movement, why will he NOT fight Mosley at 147, only at 142, but will fight Cotto at 147!

Anyways .. is Cotto looking ahead? Clottey is a VERY GOOD FIGHTER and NO ONE should be LOOKING ahead when he is your OPPONENT!

Guys chime in, no negative stuff, only stuff that can help this fight out, when I say negative, I don't mean don't critique my post, just don't call each other names.. and get off topic.. 

I like Clottey, but tough with it being Cotto's annual showcase at MSG prior to the parade.

Pacman wants no part of Cotto - they'll wait.

Roach has said he's only willing to fight Cotto at 143 too, it's just not with Mosley.  Difference is, Mosley's made it clear that he can't make 143 while Cotto said he could.

Regardless, I agree that Clottey will give Cotto hell.  Cotto is less than spectacular against guys he feels he can't hurt.  And whenever he fights off his back foot, he tends to head hunt, which would be a grave mistake against Clottey.  Clottey's conservative punch output will probably prevent me from putting the farm on him, but I'll no doubt put down some coin.

i have a bromance with cotto...but when that line comes out im actally thinkin clottey......but then again MSg and that jab performance was not the best....if cotto learned his lesson about always trying to trade then who knows.....

I have to agree to a certain extent, we will never know if Margarito used the wraps in that fight. We MUST give Cotto the benefit of the doubt and assume he did use them.

Here is where the wraps don't come into play. Cotto "Boxed" for 8 rounds, until he got tired, he was making Margarito look silly until he could NO longer back pedal and box.

The fact is Cotto ran out of gas, regardless of hand wraps he QUIT, he didn't get knocked out he got dropped mainly from pressure and exhaustion from back peddling and boxing great for 8 rounds.

He could of gotten up, but he QUIT.

I personally would erase the LOSS from Cotto's record because there is NO way to know for sure, and we must be fair a cheater is a cheater and the nod must go Cotto's way regardless if he quit. The  substance thing gave Cotto a second career and pretty much let him off the hook.

MY main thing with Cotto is he doesn't KNOW what to do when he gets hurt, you're supposed to CLINCH and wait until you get your balance back, he just stands there, and that has been there since he started boxing.. reminds me of Tyson, doesn't know what to do, or even Jermain Taylor, they just .. stand there taking a beating.. instead of clinching.

Cotto by KO is a Tall order,being Clottey has never been knocked  out,but this is boxing and anything can happen.

 I prefer Cotto with a sweet decision in his favor, and for Clottey he NEEDS a KO any close round is going to Cotto and we all know it.

MSG + Puerto Rican Day Parade the next day... is worse than a fighter going over seas and expecting fair judging!

Add to the fact Clottey is a defensive minded person and is aggressive in spurts.. usually means Cotto will be the BUSIER fighter, you don't get points for Defense, aggression matters MOST.

I will take a deeper look into this fight and maybe make a keys to victory by video this time.. and use clips.. from all the fights to make the point (still pondering if I should do this). I would put it on youtube and allow responses and video responses.. that would be cool!

I love this forum, everyone has so much knowledge .. and together even with different opinions and picks on a certain fight, we in the end RULE! :)
