Marquez has been in some wars so it's not like he's scared, and this is not only "his shot" he's been bitching about for years, but he also knows this is probably the only shot he's got at a 3rd Pac rematch as well. Marquez shouldn't win, and probably won't, but shouldn't he be considered at +400 or more???
You make some great points, Marquez is a warrior and would die in the ring just like he said against Juan Diaz "I'm 100 % Mexican" he's "Mexican American".. I will die in the ring.
He has been in wars, and personally he DESERVES the Pac-man III fight, but Marquez needs to realize sometimes the better fighter doesn't always get the acknowledgment, yes us boxing fans know Marquez has done the best against Pac-man.
Credit Pac-man and Freddie Roach for taking VERY Easy and Marketable FIGHTS.. I mean c'mon Freddie Roach said he only took the De La Hoya fight because Oscar could NO longer pull the trigger, and he knew Hatton's flaws.
He is ONLY letting Pac-man fight big names, but honestly not fighters in their prime or the best in their class.
Marquez will was VERY unimpressive at 135 in BOTH of his fights, he cannot carry the weight. Marquez at 130 is the best in my eyes.
Marquez is now forced to CHASE pac-man, fair? NO.. but that's how it goes when you have better promoters and trainers who know how to market a shitty fight.
So Marquez now must fight the P4P best in the world so he can then fight Pac-man, at 147 there is NO way he can carry that weight.
Juan Diaz pushed and bullied him around the ring until about the 5th round, mind you I had Marquez. I knew he would adjust and eventually take out Diaz because he's a technician with a warriors mentality. The fact that Diaz hurt him so much and hit him so easily, and Diaz is a VERY light puncher... made me post immediately right after the fight Marquez GO back down to 130!
Even at +400 I don't see Marquez as a play... don't get me wrong I love him to death and what he brings to boxing, but he has been in too many wars and 147 will be a severe wake up call for him. I don't care about the fight he is finally getting a shot (at a super pay day) that he deserves.
Chasing Pac-man is a bad strategy because Pac-man STILL will not fight him again unless pac-man loses. Why do you think pac-man is avoiding Mosley... who is willing to drop to 143.. and is ready to fight?
He will never fight Floyd, and Pac-man is attending the COTTO fight showing BIG interest in Cotto, why because Cotto is very beatable for Pac-man!
Too bad Clottey is in the way and if Clottey can win can throw a whole wrench in all this B.S!
Marquez deserves the III fight with Pac-man but this isn't the correct path to take.
Floyd is in a league of his own, and is the best at 147 Paul Williams #2 because well NO one will ever fight him.. except maybe Clottey!
