Mayweather by KO is lock of the year

no way Cotto can survive, NONE.  Abosolutely NONE.  Cotto gets beat any style he tries to make it.  He tries to move he's getting walked down and sysmteically beaten.  He tries to bullrush he won't be able too with mayweather counters, hand speed, and cotto short arms.  fight is a mistatch, cotto is apunching bag who doesn't move his head, already has quit, short arms, no stamina.  Mayweather is going to KO him, he has no shot.

pbf has said that he doesnt go for the ko because it doesnt pay more. i think he couldve kod mosely if he wanted to but gave him a free pass(at that particular time they were playing basketball together).

everyone knows pbf is a huge gambler and its not such a far-fetched idea for him to gamble on himself with a ko and tell all his buddies to bet as such, especially with him asking for 8-ounce gloves.

if pbf has decided to go for a ko against cotto it would be foolish to bet against him. cotto is easy to hit and really does not pose a threat to pbf. and prime cotto(zab/mosely)is probably not going to show up for this fight.

 

Floyd can definitely stop Cotto if he REALLY wanted to.. Especially if Cotto gets tired and starts backing up like he does.. An accumulation of punches may cause the ref to step in or a towel thrown in.. When Cotto gets tired, his defense is AWFUL. I mean you can tag him all over the place.. Slow wide punching Tony was molly whopping him for godsake.. Old man Mosley was teeing off on him landing nearly 50% of his punches on Cotto

I can't see floyd taking any kind of risks to knock Cotto out. He will box him for 12 rounds and win comfortablely. Cotto definately has enough power to do damage if he could catch him so I see a pbf decision here...GL

Mayweather did not give Mosley a pass. Mosley made it clear after several rounds he was in survival mode and it is very hard and dangerous trying to KO a fighter who is just punching to make it twelve tounds. Mosley has fought every fighter that was #1 or the champ in all their primes, and if they did an opponent difficulty ranking like the BCS does for NCAA football, Mosley would be a the top or very near on the opponent difficulty rating.
Them playing hoops together didn't stop Mosley from trying his best to KO Floyd in round two. That fact was totally irrelevant and soft playing an opponent is unethical is many ways. Now if Mosley was taking a severe beating, not knocking him out and continuing to punish him would be worse. Manny (like George Foreman use to) after punishing a guy that won't go down and can't defend himself often looks to the ref for a TKO. In that scenario I feel Mayweather would either finish Mosley quick or look to Mosley's corner or the ref and ring doctor to make it a TKO is Mosley didn't appear to have a chance to win.
In all likelihood Mayweather gave himself a free pass of a workout instead of a fight because trying to engage a survival mode counter puncher who still has power and speed is dangerous. Mayweahter played the hand he was dealt and skated a 12rd decision.
Go back to Marquez... When Floyd had every advantage (in a large way) against Marquez, even knocking him down early, he didn't attempt to do it. He was much bigger (not even allowing them to weight him fight night), speed, etc, etc...

i actually bet on fights and had pbf+200 decision over mosely. and anyone that watched the fight knew mosely was done in the ninth. and if pbf wanted the ko, which is the premise of this thread, he probably couldve got it, which is the premise of my post.

I have to disagree that Floyd could have. Remember, Mosley has been in with everyone, and he still had speed and power, and trying to engage a counter-puncher that is moving around to just go 12 rounds can put you on the canvas quick. Also, remember that Mosley up to that point was the fastest counter puncher Mayweather had ever faced. I had similar with Pac & Mayweather to win by decision as I felt Mosley was in survival immediately when he felt Manny's power, and when he realized Mayweather would pick him apart if he tried to fight. Mosley is strictly a counter-puncher and that is what made the Cotto-Mosley fight great. Cotto had slower hands and every time he engaged, Mosley responded. A terrific match-up and the fight could have gone either way.
I agree Pac was content to allow Sugar a pass as he realized Mosley wanted no part of any exchange. Pac did the same to Clottey half way through the fight as he knew that Clottey knew the speed differential was way to much.
Floyd after the 2nd round (which was almost inevitable Sugar would catch Mayweather as he tested the waters). Then Mayweather hit the switch and shut him down totally and after the 4th it appeared Mosley never engaged or attempted to.

Ali vs Holmes: Saying Holmes gave Ali a pass is a little far fetched. Why would he make fun of and taunt Ali saying things like "I'm your master, I'm your teacher" during the bout. Sure after the fight he gave Ali praise, but why mock the man who taut you as a sparring partner after a two year layoff and supported you as an employer giving Holmes a high paid sparring partner salary. Anyone with any defense was able to go the distance with Holmes as they avoided the jab, but lost the fight. It was irrelevant if they were over the hill, lacked power or speed, as long as they possessed some type of fundamental technique they could avoid his jab (which was his bread, butter, and sweet potato pie). If you watch near the ending of the fight, Holmes did throw some huge shots to the mid-section and head (temple shot was big). He maybe didn't engage him as much, but I'd say if Ali continued and tried for 15 rounds, Holmes would have turned it up full and stopped him. So easy is a tough word to say... maybe not 100%, but far from easy. Watch the fight when Holmes double ali over, he threw a SEVEN PUNCH BARRAGE. Holmes's style he often took breathers (small breaks) constantly in every fight no matter how close he was to a KO. He consistently stuck with his game plan and made sure he had enough just in case things take a bad turn and he has to go to war for 15 rounds.

Terry Norris vs Sugar Ray Leonard: Knocking Ray in the 2nd shocked Norris, in the 7th round when he knocked down Leonard a 2nd time said by then the in awe factor was gone and it was all business. I think knocking a legend and your hero down for the 1st time is shocking, but he said as the fight went on he really pressed to win every round. He also said he used caution because he remembered Lalonde knocking down Leonard, but then ending up getting KO'd. He said he realized that he was dominating the fight, and didn't want to take risks that could cause him to lose after having a major lead. It was more the fact that I win than KO my opponent. He felt that if he wasn't ahead by so much and it was closer that he would have engaged and tried to stop Leonard instead of letting the judges take it. Winning by total domination was the same as a KO for him as no doubt was left he won all (or nearly all with 2 knockdowns as well) the rounds in everyone's eyes.
(I think it was on Arsenio, maybe another show as well) He was on Arsenio Hall a few nights after the fight and talked about the Leonard fight and stated that even though he had total control of the bout, Sugar Ray Leonard didn't become a living legend for nothing. He explained about how Leonard was dangerous at all times. Arsenio then got in to the slow motion vision Norris possessed. Where the hell was that slow motion vision when Julian Jackson did a one punch knock-out that folded Norris like a cheap suit.

I think it was last year Norris stated “Boxing has gotten soft. If you put Floyd Mayweather in my era, I know a number of guys that were in my weight division that would beat him, including me!”

The only fighter I've seen consistently trying to go easy and have the fight stopped so he wouldn't land a severe life altering or life ending punch was Big George Foreman during his comeback. Especially a man like that who threw punches slowly but somehow they had freakish strong power (Foreman, Tyson also used torque and speed, Shavers, etc...).
I remember fights he would plead to the ref and wait or yell to the corner to stop it. You got to love when George did commentary, as within 5 minutes he would totally contradict is original statement, but have no fear as he turned those 180 degree turns all the way back to the starting point at 360 degrees. That often continued throughout each bout he did commentary.

Naazim Richardson is a very good trainer and instead of stating to the referee before the Margarito fight to watch and check Margarito's wraps very closely, he used the surprise effect to a great advantage. Margarito (with the fights he had plaster) had a psychological edge in fights, knowing that his punches would get much harder while his opponent would get weaker. Now you are ready to go in to the ring and surprise, inspection for every second during the wrapping and now Superman just got hit with kryptonite. Now you lost your punching advantage, and you start to worry and wonder, and you have less encouragement to continue a fight while getting a beating. Cotto did severe damage in the first fight, but Margarito came back. Pacquiao severely punished him but that fight he knew the deal and no surprises. You think Mosley hit him harder than Manny did, or did he also seem confused. All credit to Naazim Richardson as he was well aware what might have been going on, and he put a stop to it and also did it causing Margarito a psychological set-back and Mosley now psyched-up!
I like what he stated on an interview (maybe it was HBO 24/7), but he was on point.
Naazim Richardson: "Shane you’re going to come out in this fight and catch (punch) Mayweather, and he’s going to become a fire-breathing dragon." After Mosley caught him and shocked him in  round two, Mayweather showed flashed of the younger and more offensive Floyd and shut-down Mosley every round after that!

This fight hits the scorecards. Cotto has really learned and applied defense even though it was against an easy opponent (MargaCHEATOh). He has learned enough, and shoulder rolls, and does more movement coming forward.

I mentioned Cotto (before Margarito I) that Floyd could have gone down in weight and fought, but he opted not. Back then it would have been easier than now.
Cotto is more technical, stronger, and has somewhat of a decent defense. His speed has remained the same. Most fighters would have been finished after the 3 wars he fought all in a short span.

07-26-08 Antonio Margarito L-TKO 11 (he was getting punched with cement, that hurts)
He beat Jennings TKO 5 (it was more a feel out and get back to winning)
06-13-09 Joshua Clottey W-SD 12 (he got a bad gash, but Clottey had hurt his knee; brutal fight and very close)
11-14-09 Manny Pacquiao L-TKO 12 (he got destroyed and that fight should have been stopped many rounds prior)

A years times... 35 rounds of total hell, and the man remained positive, focused and even learned defensive techniques after. Takes serious physical and mental ability to accomplish much and become champ again!
