Nikolai Valuev will go toe-to-toe with Serguei Lyakhovich in a WBA heavyweight title eliminator on February 16. Valuev lost the WBA belt to Ruslan Chagaev earlier this year, dropping a majority points decision to the Uzbekistani in Stuttgart, Germany, and is determined to reclaim what he sees as rightfully his. "I want to win my title back," the giant Russian is quoted as saying by yahoo. "And I will move closer to my goal on February 16. But he [Lyakhovich] is a former champion so I will take him very seriously.” Lyakhovich, who won the WBO title by outpointing Lamon Brewster, only to lose it in his very first defence, against Shannon Briggs in November of last year, represents a significant obstacle for Valuev to overcome. However, his new trainer, Alexander Zimin, is supremely confident that his man will prevail. Indeed, Zimin claims to have improved Valuev’s technical skills immeasurably since linking up with the ‘The Beast from the East’ after the Chagaev defeat. "I want Nikolai to please the fans," said Zimin. "He shall entertain them. That's why we've changed his style completely - he is punching more and hitting harder."
Valuev has never been stopped before in his career after 49 fights , his only loss comes by a majority decision . You cant knock this man out because he has a granite skull . Lyakhovich cant stop him before the 12th round is over .
Lyakhovich lost twice by late knockouts in round 9 and round 12 . Can Valuev knock him out too ? I dont think he can do it with his boring boxing style unless Serguei gets very tired in the end and Valuev lands some heavy punches on him which I cant see happening either . In his last 7 fights Valuev went to a decision 4 times with 3 of them being majority decisions which shows that he didnt dominate his opponents .
I watched all Valuevs fights since he started fighting in Germany and even being so huge he cant really knockout any solid fighter because his punches are too slow . Most of his opponents get tired in the second half of the fight because of the weight difference they have to deal with and he might get a chance to finish them .
My prediction is Valuev to win in a boring fight by an unanimous decision.

I agry, but I like the 7` via Decision 222% ROI even better. Though even if NV did get beat, it would likely have to be the "w.wolf" by Decision as well. So I played them both.

Shannon Briggs knocked L'Vich out, he's not exactly a beacon for lightning quick hands. I'm leaning towards Valuev straight up, but Valuev by decision may have more value.

I don't know if I would weigh an over play that heavily, but I agree. As posted, I have been on this for a while. I'm surprised the line hasn't gone up, I didn't think there would be a lot of under players.

Some funny things have happened over in Germania before. Anything is possible. I would love to see Valuev have to get up off the canvas. Would probably take him like 45 minutes.

I can't believe I'm wasting time defending Shannon Briggs of all people, but for his many flaws, handspeed wasn't one of them. Even an old, huffing and puffing Briggs was quicker on the draw than just about everyone in the current heavyweight top 20. His issue was activity.
But the point is moot in any case. Liakhovich got kayoed because he was exhausted. I hope the rumor about better conditioning for this fight is true, because there's no way he makes it the distance against the giant otherwise.

wolf +240, he will take him in an easy decision. after being known as the guy that got knocked out with 1 second left he will definitely come back strong
