Anybody have an idea as to why Hopkins was able to hit Kelly with such hard, clean shots so often?
I ask because Pavlik seems to clearly be motivated by the chance to fight at Cowboys Stadium later this year (assuming a win) so if he is healthy and avoids getting tagged early I think he makes relatively quick work of Martinez. Looking for a convincing KO from the bigger/stronger man. Though it is entirely possible that I'm completely off on this..
Appreciate the input

There are three reasons why B-Hop was able to hit Pavlik with clean shots.
1) Styles make fights. B-Hop was able negate Pavlik's power by his constant movement, his constant combos/holding technique and his jabs(always getting off first). B-Hop trainer can be heard during the fight saying, "yeah, lets expose this guy as being one demenisional and then take that away from him and then we can break him down". That's what B-Hop did.
2) Defense, Defense, Defense. Pavlik likes to trade power punches with his opponents.... and that's fine with most fighters but what happens if your "bread and butter" is being negated? You get a B-Hop result. B-Hop was partially correct when he told Pavlik that he got beat by a "slick black boxer". Pavlik was not prepared for that style of boxing.....which is why he would not be a good opponent for a Winky Wright (3 yrs. removed), Paul Williams (constant jab) and a defensive minded boxer. Boxers that can roll their shoulders, slip punches, stick n move, and are quick will always cause Pavlik problems.
3) Pavlik is not an elite fighter...... he is the king of the roost at Middleweight and that's it. He could not make weight at 154lbs and there is no money/fame @ 154lbs. Unless he could secure fights with Centron, Cotto, and/or Margarito. He would not be successful at 168lbs.....because
a) The money/fame are there in the Super 6 box off....and Pavlik just wants to be a Middleweight champion.
b) His style is perfect for the fighters at 168Lbs but can he absorp the punishment from King Authur or Kessler and would he be able to adapt to the styles of Ward and Dirrel??
c) He could be a perfect match for Bute and Froch (winnable fights and championships).......but he does not seem to want it.......or does not have something?????
Just my opinion

Agree, I like the discussion and can't argue with any points that were made.. so lets move on to this.. Does anyone see Kelly having trouble with Martinez? Martinez coming off a tough fight, Pavlik coming off a couple of cake walks..

I've have watched Martinez fight and I think he and his team scout fighters well. He did a great job of exploiting Cintron and William's weakness. I think he will do a great job of scouting Pavlik's weakness........... but you can scout a fighter all you want but if you allow a puncher like Pavlik to fight "tall" and constantly pound you with "bread and butter" ....I can see alot of difficulties.
I will say this about Martinez.... he is quicker than Pavlik, he knows how to fight taller fighters and negate their reach advantages, and seems to able to take a punch.....from Welterweights......but Pavlik is a Middleweight.
I see a fight like Taylor vs Pavlik I. Can Martinez trade shots with Pavlik and can he last into the later rounds....bc he looked pretty gassed in the later roundsvs Williams. Can Pavlik stick to his game plan and can he corner and outbox the quicker Martinez????
