2007: 52.31 units risked, +12.45 units (24% return)
Allan Green vs. Rubin Williams Under 7.5 (-155) 1 unit
Some thought that Green was overrated after a lackluster performance against Edison Miranda in March 2007, but later Green revealed that he'd been suffering from a painful colon disorder, which obviously prevented him from being at his best against Miranda. Following successful surgery, Green's first healthy bout came against Darrell Woods in July, when he viciously knocked out the veteran in less than a half round. Green followed that up with a second-round KO over Sherwin Davis in October. Green appears primed for a possible rematch against Miranda later this year. Although 31-year-old Rubin Williams' record (29-2) appears respectable at first glance, he's definitely outclassed in this fight. You might remember Williams from the first episode of last season's Contender. Williams embarrassed himself on the reflex test, in which the fighters were assigned to touch spots on an electronic board as soon as they lit up. Williams looked confused and slow, which could be one of the reasons why he had problems in his last bout against journeyman Antwun Echols (a draw). When Williams gets pushed into the ropes, he has trouble blocking his opponents' punches, and this is probably explained by his relatively poor reflexes. That's a recipe for disaster against Green, who combines good hand speed with punching power. If Green gets Williams into a corner, I doubt that Williams can successfully defend himself. As a result, I don't see Williams getting past the 6th round in this one.
Lamont Peterson vs. Antonio Mesquita Under 9.5 (+190) .6 unit
Although Lamont is not known as a big puncher (11 KO's in 23 bouts), he's ended his last three inside the distance. While Lamont hasn't been known to possess one-punch KO power, he uses his excellent boxing skills to land numerous punches, which can break an opponent's will. That's what happened the last time I saw Lamont in a September bout against Frankie Santos. I picked the under 9.5 prop at +130 odds in that fight, and Lamont had Santos retiring at the end of six rounds. I didn't see Lamont's last fight against Humberto Toledo, which was a first-round KO, but the fact that it ended so early indicates that the 23-year-old could be developing more power at this stage of his career. If so, then free-swinging Antonio Mesquita had better watch out tonight because he's definitely going to leave himself open for counter shots when he misses. Mesquita has never lost, but he's also never faced a top-notch opponent (in 2000, he beat Juan Carlos Rodriguez by unanimous decision, but that's when Rodriguez was in the midst of a six-fight losing streak). There's a very outside shot at Mesquita landing a bomb that sends Lamont to the canvas, but at 35-years-old, Mesquita's past his prime. Lamont will likely wear down Mesquita with flush punches over the course of the fight, and I expect a stoppage in the 7th or 8th round.

I'm toying w/ that AlG LOW. But how dude can fight w/ 15-20% of a colon is beyond me. I'd think that'd have to make for a target, a mean spirited one, no doubt, but a target none the less. (might even be above the Belt)
I have AlG, & Lamont.

The colon surgery happened prior to the Davis and Woods bouts. You
don't need your colon to box; just to take a dump. He was much worse
off when his colon was all messed up, as I imagine that it caused some
mega stomach cramps. Think about how you feel when you have to go take
a dump really bad, but you're in the car and the driver won't stop.
That's how Allan Green felt the entire time he fought Miranda. After
the surgery, he easily dispatched Woods and Davis. It was like a huge
handicap had been lifted.

They let it stand for now. Never actually had a problem with them
reversing the bets, as they must deal with these mistakes in-house
instead of taking it out on the bettors. They changed it to -200 soon
after I got another friend to unload on the +140. Also, they had
Anthony Peterson under at +175, and Lamont at +185. Now, Anthony's
under is at +125, while Lamont's under is at +145. I think the "boxing
people" (as bodog has called them in e-mail correspondence) are going
to be in a little bit of hot water.

GL to you, too, FB! I like your Viloria wager. And if you win the Mesquita ITD, I win, too (unless it's in the last 1:30 of the 10th round, which is highly unlikely).

That's funny. I only have had it happen to me once that I can
remember, I believe it was Chagaev-Virchis. Chagaev opened at
Sportsbook which I used to use at +300 and I hit it pretty hard. About
an hour later it was no-actioned and the odds were corrected, I thought
they were just trying to give me an early Christmas present.
What has your experience been with Bodog? I have never used them. Sounds like they are missing a few brain cells.

Bodog is a bad place to play if you like to bet faves in football and basketball. And their boxing odds usually have more juice on them than 5dimes. I think it's called 20-cent lines (e.g., -160 on A-Peterson over, +120 on the under). But they have no clue about boxing, so you'll often get good value on some dogs that have already been heavily hit over at 5dimes, and there's a definite adjustment lag at bodog. For example, I got Antillon under a few weeks back at -110, and it took a day for them to come to their senses. They pushed it back to -145, and then it closed at -180. Possibly because of some speculative betting mishaps, for this week they didn't release lines until this afternoon (Friday), even though they usually do it on Thursday afternoon. And they recently began allowing you to parlay boxing sides (but not totals). Overall, I kinda like it more than 5dimes because value gets sapped out of 5dimes almost immediately, so if you're not constantly watching lines there, you can get left in the dust. At Bodog, I sometimes feel like I'm screwing the sportsbook, which is kinda nice for a change.

No. But did you see the nite I put in Fbs? Ate those Prop lines up for b'fast, lunch, dinner & a lite snack. Killed in Hokie hoops as well. & I closed out all of your/mine +$$$ boxing parlays for four weeks worth of betting. 10 Parlays incorrect on VT SU, the rest were KU or VT buying max points (15 in most cases/places). I'd call that my 3rd most epic nite ever. 113 Parlays in total 10 went the anti bigeiii way. Which included two of the three highest ROI ones. As we had nothing but bad news all preBowl Season (Ore suspension, Hall got hurt, Cam got hurt, yada-yada-yada, while KU get well)
I agry. I fell out on bodog a long time ago.

Z just blew his guy complete out of the building. I have to think the LOW on 79 secs would have paid pretty good. I've never been overly impressed by Z, (getting beat by PoPo in particular), but I was impressed by how little time he took.

That 6 rounder was pretty exciting also. What a cut from that head butt.

He also thumbs his nose/eyes/cheeks a lot. I don't know? Maybe he's pulling a snipe hunt for his colon? ; )
Good 6 rounder indeed. & I agry w/ Teddy. Gotta be hard/odd when you are not warmed up & just have to go running out to fight all premature. I had it 3-3 in fact. But I won't call out those who scored it for Jonesy. If any1 did win that in the clear, it was him.

A Standing-8?!? What a novel ideal. I've never understood why that is not used more often??? It is actually still legal. Nice straight Lead Jab KD, w/ his body weight and inertia fully behind it by AlG.
