Trinidad to fight (and lose to) Roy Jones

Moving up to 170...hmmmm.  Wonder if he is trying to make one more payday.
 
He will get picked apart all night, although maybe not stopped.

I don't know about picked apart, the blueprint for beating Trinidad has been drawn, a relentless jab in his face all fight that keeps him off balance.  He can't handle it.  DLH was on to this for the first 9 rounds of their fight, Hopkins executed it perfectly, and Wink absolutely mastered it.  Throwing a jab is something Jones doesn't do.  The weight should play a role for both fighters, of course Tito has never fought that high and Jones hasn't been there since 1996, it's gotta be tough for a 38 year old to drop down to a weight he hasn't been at in 11 years.  Jones talked about how hard it was for him to make 175 after moving up to heavy and now he is talking about going 5 lbs. south.

What is really stupid is they are going to try and market this fight as a super fight on PPV.  Who cares to be honest?  Jones hasn't won a meaningful fight since 2003 and has lost 3 out of his last 5. Tito has been a non factor since 2001 and has basically been retired since 2002, a win over a blown up Mayorga and a non-competitive shutout loss to Wright doesn't really count as much of a comeback by me. 

This is a complete waste of a fight that doesn't offer any type of historical significance or meaning in today's boxing landscape.  You have two guys living off their name who just want a paycheck, I for one won't give them a dime.

I agree !! I won't pay a cent for this fight either.

 This would have been a good PPV superfight in 2001 before Tito lost to Hopkins but the 2 of them were too chicken shit to fight back then because neither of them wanted to end up with a loss. Now they are both has beens that can't  win a fight and now they want to give us a fight we wanted 6 years ago.

It's rather pathetic, if you ask me.  Neither fighter have any dignity for their careers or the sports they claim to love.  I hope it's a double KO.

At least Jones has been active...For Tito to come back and move up in weight after this long of a layoff is Crazy..Looks like a JOnes win but both Fighters should hang it up

I don't really know how to react to this fight now that it's being done way past both their primes.  I think it might actually be a good one, because they have both deteriorated to almost on the same level. 
 
I would have to give the nod to Jones though (if someone put a gun to my head) just because I think he'd still be faster than Tito at their respective ages.  Then again, wouldn't surprise me to see Jones suck ass again and get dropped with his glass jaw.  I know for sure I'm not paying $60 to find out, and I doubt I'll eat any chalk on this one either.

There is no way this will be $60...this isn't Tyson vs Lewis...not even De La Hoya vs Mayweather was $60...this will more than likely be a regular HBO PPV for $49.95

They can't win a fight between them , thats why they are fighting each other because someone has to win .

In another note I just heard Ali is coming out of retirement to fight Norton again ,since these two "big name" fighters will be fighting I guess you'll be getting this fight also correct? It only costs 50 bucks

I will prob have a few hundred on Roy, depending on the odds...rather than watching the play-by-play as a lot of people will do on here, I will ORDER it for $50  hey, might even have my GF bring over some of her girlfriends so my boys can try to score some ass...not all of us are broke asses who don't mind a scrap

I will probably order as well, not so much because I expect a great fight (although, for some of us older guys, it is an interesting match) but because I will be on Jones in a pretty big way.  Trinidad has terrible weight distribution issues and leans on his front foot, and a good boxer causes him problems.  Fullbrights, I don't think it's a matter of a good jab as much as it the ability to captitalize on a glaring weakness.  Hopkins has never had a great jab and he killed Trindad, as I remember it, by faints and upper body movement.  He took control late after he weakened Trinidad.
 
Jones should be about to reduce his effectiveness with movement and boxing.  I have not checked the reach but my guess is Jones has a significant adv. there.

Go back and watch the tape, trust me the Hopkins jab was the key to that fight.  He set up everything off of it and kept Tito off balance not allowing him to set and throw.  The jab is the key to beating Trinidad and I'm just saying a consistent jab is like a foreign language to Jones.

Hopkins threw and landed just about as many jabs as Tito threw in total punches.

Trinidad:
Punches thrown- 329
Punches landed- 129

Hopkins:
Jabs thrown-275
Jabs landed- 95

Wright threw 588 jabs against Trinidad and De La Hoya landed 143 jabs before hopping on his bicycle.  The long layoff for Trinidad is know doubt a major part of this fight for Jones backers as is the weight, but the one proven formula for beating Trinidad is one that Jones doesn't really do hardly any of. 

Of course if your looking at this fight based on the basics in front of you Jones would be the obvious square play, but he doesn't throw a jab and doesn't show hardly any defense anymore.  Plus, the chin still has to be a question mark.
