Season to date 61-32.
Ah, the wild and woolly CFL,....gets crazier by the minute, and it's funny, the Canadians I've known seem completely sane.
Anyway, I am not complaining as it has treated me well in my first foray into the CFL.....I actually had a guy tell me in my last thread that I was calculating things all wrong. Go crazy and fade away then buddy, you'd be 32-61 this year.
Anyway, on to this week.....we have to delve into a touchy/feely topic....no, not the deep and meaningful type that your partner wants to bring up to discuss "the relationship" but that of "who's going to try to lose this weekend".
Looks like the bookmakers are all over it as they haven't put out a line on the relevant games after Winnipeg decides if they're going to tank or try to win. Those bookmakers, they're clever fellows usually, and I never assume that I am more clever than they are.
Winnipeg has a chance to host a playoff game if they win and BC loses, so I am making the assumption that they'll give their best effort, which, in the final week doesn't always translate to wins, as teams that don't care often beat those teams that do....we'll call it the "choke factor". If the Bombers lose, the Eskimos might try to manage a loss versus the Argos to play in the Eastern half of the draw, though it seems slightly impossible that the Argos could beat even a team that is trying to lose these days. If Winnipeg loses versus Ottawa, Edmonton will be saying to themselves,
"Do we want to win and go on the road in the West to BC or do we want to play at Hamilton in the East?"
Seems like a no-brainer to me, they'd tank the game versus Toronto to get the opportunity to play at Hamilton. And make no mistake, Edmonton could win it all in this scenario.....wild card types of teams that get hot can be the locomotives of the playoffs.
I'll make picks on the games that are up so far. I'm 16th in the Covers CFL contest and though I am not mathematically eliminated, I pretty much am. It's a shame that I didn't just use the picks I've put up in the forum as I would be in around 3rd place right now, with a real chance to win. if I am still in it after the first two games are completed, I'll play the other two sides/totals in a last ditch "Hail Mary" type of situation in attempt to get me over the line.
1) Winnipeg pick
They are my dark horse team to win it, but their defense has fallen apart in the last third of the season,....too bad because Nichols has them rolling on offense. I still have my doubts about O'Shea's ability to be a bona fide head coach.
2) Winnipeg UNDER 52
Pure regression play as I have the total at 72 based on the last six weeks' performances.
3) Montreal +3'
This could be interesting as Adams is still wanting to prove himself and you have a disinterested favorite. Sign me up for the Vernon Adams Road Show.
4) Montreal/Hamilton OVER 47
Footballs flying all over the place in this one.
We'll see what happens after these are completed.
