WPG -6 @ OTT We haven't seen Ottawa play this season yet, Winnipeg looked awful last week and now they'll be without Oliveira and Lawler but Bighill will be back in the lineup. Johnny Augustine will take Oliveira's spot. Ontaria Wilson and Keric Wheatfall (practise roster) will replace Lawler and the traded away Rasheed Bailey. Let's not get into Winnipeg's offensive stats from last week; they were bad. O'Shea has a great track record at bouncing back after a loss and I like Winnipeg to do just that in this game. The Bombers still have Collaros, Schoen, Demski and their defensive leader is back tonight: Bighill.
This will be Dru Brown's first game as a RedBlack, and wouldn't he like nothing better then to hand his former team a loss? He will be in tough. Ottawa has a terrible O line and lost their starting RB for the year. Their WR core is decent (Addison, Rhymes, Hardy, Acklin). The defense is the star of the show for this team, and Adarius Pickett will bring even more juice to a great defense. I like Winnipeg to bounce back. Dru Brown will be great, but he will need some time with his new team and some offensive line/RB help. He won't get it in Ottawa's first game. Bombers win and cover.
27 - 16 Bombers
MTL @ EDM +4.5 Montreal looked really good last week and apparently had no Grey Cup hangover. Their defense is scary and they have a very conservative/opportunistic offense. Fajardo will pick you apart in the short passing game and then take his shots when it opens up down field. Will they miss Stanbeck down the road? TBD. Fajardo went 20/28 for 2 TDs and 1 INT last week. This is a well coached team with great minded coordinators on both sides of the ball.
Edmonton had a 13 point lead against my green Riders including a 10 point lead going into the 4th quarter but then the Elks went Elksing like they usually do and gave up 21 points in the 4th and lost by 8. Bethel-Thompson completed 33/42 for 336 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Elks were throwing a lot last week. Kevin Brown only had 7 carries, expect more work for him in this one and not so many pass attempts for Bethel-Thompson. Edmonton is a much improved team from last year bringing consistency at QB with Thompson, stealing Javon Leake from the Argos and also trading for Gittens Jr. I like Montreal to win but Edmonton to cover. This is back to back games for Montreal on the road and to boot both games being out West.
24-21 Alouettes
CAL +8.5 @ BC The Stamps are another team that is much improved from last year with Maier having another year under his belt and Demerio Houston leaving off where he did in Hamilton by getting an INT in his first game as a Stampeder. Dedrick Mills looks like he's established himself as the lead back rushing 13 times for 87 yards. Maier looked impressive slinging in passes in tight windows and had great anticipation going 21/26 for 252 yards and 2 TDs. Calgary looked good but they were playing Hamilton.
BC is having 50 cent perform and anticipating a crowd of 50,000 for their home opener but for BC they got 50,000 problems on their O line they need to address first. Adams got mauled last week and had no time to throw the ball. Adams still threw for 363 yards going 25/33 with 2 TDs and 1 INT. Toronto has a great defensive line and got even better by adding Jake Ceresna to it from Edmonton (traded Gittens Jr). BC must fix their protection and do it fast. BC also has a lot of pressure on them with the big crowd for their home opener and expectations they have this year. Lions win but don't cover.
30-24 Lions

SK +1 @ HAM It took 3 quarters for them to start ticking but the Riders put it together and will carry that momentum into this one. Harris had no ill effects coming off his serious injury from last year bringing the Riders back in the 4th completing 22/31 for 305 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INT including 3 TD passes to Shawn Bane. Ouellette was invisible carrying the rock 18 times for 40 yards but he will be much better going forward, it was only one game and his first one as a Rider. How are the Riders underdogs, because they are on the road? Vegas is expecting Hamilton takes this one and the Riders take the rematch next week at Mosaic?
Bo Levi is not the answer for Hamilton. He played OK but made some key mistakes and bad throws. He went 27/38 for 300 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. James Butler was the star of the show for Hamilton rushing 13 times for 119 yards but never found the end zone despite Hamilton scoring 24 points. Hamilton is our potentially worst team in the league this year. I don't like their HC, they have a lot of question marks at QB and WR and lost a lot of talent on the defense. Expect both RBs to be the stars of the show in this game (Ouellette and Butler). Riders win and cover.
29-19 Riders
TEASERS: 1-1 TEASER: 6.5 pts
WPG +0.5 Going to roll with Winnipeg again. They still have enough pieces to beat an unknown Ottawa team who will take a few games to start clicking. With Bighill back in the lineup and Ottawa having a ghost run game, Winnipeg can make Ottawa one-dimensional in Dru Browns first game as a RedBlack. The Bombers also know their ex-teammate very well.
SK +7.5 Just like last week I feel like the wrong team is favored and add a 7 pt cushion to that I like it. If the Riders do manage to lose this one I can't see it being by more than a few points to a bad Hamilton team.
TOP OFFENSIVE GRADE: Toronto Argonauts - Cameron Dukes looked great behind the best offensive line in the CFL going 21/27 for 254 yards and 3 TDs. Carey added 65 yards on 16 carries and Dukes spread the ball out to seven other players ranging from 21-52 yards for 2-5 receptions. Toronto looks great in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
TOP DEFENSIVE GRADE: Montreal Alouettes - This one was easy. Montreal held the Bombers to 12 points and didn't allow them in the endzone until the final minute of the game. Collaros couldn't get anything going in the air and was under constant pressure whereas Oliveira was only able to muster 38 yards on the ground on 11 carries.
I am going to give it another week or two before I do any sort of power rankings, we need to see a few games out of all 9 teams.
Good luck everyone.
