All this talk about expanding the tournament

I am so sick of all this talk because of all the cry babies that get left out of the tournament. None of these teams have a chance to win the thing so all you would be doing is just adding a bunch of teams that have no chance. Why dont they just let anyone play PGA tour events too. Sure maybe I am a 12 handicap but I could have the best 4 rounds of my life and win the Masters! Give me a break. If anything they could lower it down to 32 teams and it would be fine. It is hard enough to win 6 games in a row let alone 7 if you expanded it so what happens when the best teams stumble a game and you end up with a Final Four featuring Richmond, Temple, St. Marys and BYU. Then how great will your expansion look you idiots. By adding more teams you are just diluting the product. We already got enough bowl games that nobody watches just so everyone can have a bowl game. We dont want to hurt anyones feelings. If you want to make the tournament its very simple. Just have a better team and win more games. If your record isnt good enough to get in the tournament then you arent good enough to win it so just forget about it. Or maybe they could just let everyone in it and that way noone gets left out. They could expand it to 300 teams and just let the shit run for 3 months. This is something that really pisses me off!

I don't even see why you would want to be in the tournament if you weren't deserving. I guess I just have more pride in myself where I don't like charity and if someone was letting me in a tournament just so my feelings don't get hurt but really I didn't deserve to be in it then I wouldn't even want to be there. You want to be in the tournament just for what? To say you were in the tournament? To maybe pull off the big first round upset and maybe knock out a team that is actually better then you but you win the game so now you can feel better about yourself and just go and lose in the second round? Fucking pathetic.

It is all about the money...that is the single reason driving the expansion talks...personally, I would absolutely hate to see it happen

If they did it they would have to then set up a bye system because you cant make the top seeds have to play 7 games in the tournament. That would be ridiculous. Making a team win 7 games in a row anything can happen. Then like I said you get the top seeds knocked out then you end up with a shit final four. Then even if you expand it you are going to have teams that feel like they should have gotten in. Then what about the division 2 champions. Why not give them a shot too. And the Gus Macker champions. Maybe they could make a run at it. Throw in the Brooklyn playground champs. Maybe let the Harlem Globetrotters in there.

Hell just make it a complete free for all tournament. Everyone is invited. You make a basketball team you can play in the tournament. Make the shit 10,000 teams and have it go on for 5 years. That would be awesome!!

You already have 64 fucking teams (now 65) in the fucking thing and probably 55 of them have no fucking chance of winning the god damn thing. Last year you had 64 teams that had no fucking chance.

Although id really hate to expand the field i disagree with your statement. The reason is i always think to college football where there dont even get a shot to play. Even though yeah its likely only 10 or so teams can win it all the best part is EVERYONE can win it all because there is a tourney to be played and we dont stare at computers.

64 is the perfect # of teams, and nobody can convince me otherwise... 32 and 48 was too few on the other hand, but I believe that they have found the "sweet-spot" regarding the number of schools who get to "dance" fwiw...

Its not about winning.  Its about rewarding teams for a strong year and giving them a game to play on a big stage.  The NCAA has added 100 teams in the last 10 years.  I have no problem expanding the field to 80 and having 16 play-in games.  This way you wouldn't get ridiculous 1st round matchups for the 1 seeds. 

 I agree & disagree. I'm all for rewarding a team for a good season, but  the main reason there are so many more teams claiming D1 status now is money............your 80 team scenario is about as far as I'd like to see it go...........but even then it starts taking on the "special olympics" feel where everybody gets a ribbon.

It all comes down to the automatic bids and getting the BEST 64 teams in the tournament.  I think that is what most people are arguing.  I think 64 is the perfect set-up, but they need to find a way to get the BEST 64 in there.  You think Sam Houston St is better than Illinois or Virginia Tech or Mississippi St?

Its not that these teams are mad or upset they didn't get in, they are upset because the Sam Houston St's and the Lehigh's DID make it.

I think they should make the tournament just open for everyone. High school, division 2, online colleges if you put together a team. That way everyone has a chance to win and noone feels left out. After the deadline for entry they can take how many teams are entered and then make a giant bracket. The tournament can go on the entire summer.

If the reason Illinois is upset is because they didnt get in and a smaller school did then they are free to quit the Big Ten and go join the MAC or somewhere and dominate every year then they can get in the tournament every year and be happy!

If they go to 96 teams, then the Tourney will be even MORE watered down then it already is... NBA $$$ is the ultimate "evil" now, so many (TOO many imo) standouts are leaving before even their junior year (can't blame them really) which is creating even more parity than one might expect. As someone else posited, there are about 9-10 teams who actually have a shot at the NCAA Championship, and the rest are either "also-rans" or are "Cinderellas"... bottomline, $$$ will expand the field, not the "spirit of the game" or whatever.

The sad thing is no matter how many arguments and valid points are to be made for NOT expanding they will do it anyways because greed rules everything. They are talking about expanding the NFL season too. It is really ashame. Greed rules the world. They are going to ruin the two best things going in sports right now. I mean honestly besides die hard sports fans like us who watches the MLB, NHL, or NBA anymore? The seasons are just way to long. Who the hell wants to watch hockey in fucking June?  And watch baseball in November? I know I personally have not watched one NHL or NBA game the entire season. The reason I enjoy football and college basketball is because you have short seasons and every game matters. You expand the tournament and like someone said it will start to have the special olympics feel where everyone gets a ribbon. It will go on too long and people will lose interest. Noone will fill out brackets anymore cause who wants to sit there for an hour trying to decided who is going to win a game between two schools that noone has ever even heard of.

So basically you hate every sport? Im completely against expanding the field but i hate no problem that the other sports go as long as they do. More sports isnt bad its good!!! I dont want 50 mlb games or only 40 nba games. Fuck that

I'm pretty sure it will never get expanded. It's working great how it is. The only expansion I would like is maybe instead of one play in game, have four so it's an all day degenerate special and then there's three more at large bids for teams that might actually have a chance but any expanding to 96 or 128 would be terrible.

No. You didn't read what I said. I watch tons of baseball every year I love it. And baseball plays series so they have to play a lot of games. I try to explain that to people all the time. But they do have to do something about the world series going into November. It is not a lot of fun watching the two best teams play in 30 degree weather every year. Bring back the double headers and shorten the season a few weeks at least getting the world series done by the end of October. The NBA and NHL really dont have to play so many games. I mean you get teams with under .500 records getting into the NBA playoffs. College basketball is perfect. You play a little over 30 games. If you lose more then 10 there is a good chance you dont make the tournament. College football the whole season is like the playoffs. NFL is great. NFL players are so exhausted when they get to the playoffs already you are going to make them play 2 more games. That is ridiculous. You are going to just have a couple more weeks of garbage games at the end of the season. If the NCAA adds more play in games you will still have a team that was left out of that complaining they didnt get a chance to play a play in game so what is the point?

I agree, there is enough teams now.  when they added 65 i was against it, if you are going to have a play in game then make it 2 teams that were on the bubble not two bullshit teams that are going to get blown out by a #1 seed.  Illinois and VA tech should have played the play in game.  If there is 96 teams then the Big east would get 12 in every year and then what is the point of conference tournaments and basically if you win 20 games in a big conference you are in.  Awful Idea.  if anything expand the NIT for teams that need to be a post season, ast least the kids will get to play extra games.

And like I said if you are whining because you are in a tough conference and a team in a smaller conference got in the tournament and you didn't well then maybe that conference is to tough for you and you should move to a smaller conference.

George Mason is extremely rare. The majority of the teams that pull of the big first round upset end up getting slaughtered either in the next game or the game after that. Most of the time all they wind up doing is knocking a good team out that really could go far in the tournament and just had a bad game then they go on to the next game and get killed.

Take for example last year. You could expand the tournament to 500 teams and noone would of beat North Carolina. We all know the reason they are expanding it is just greed. It is not so George Mason has a chance to make it to the final four again.  Give me a break. If you believe that you are living in the clouds.

I mean do you honestly think if they were going to lose money they would still expand the field in order to make the tournament more fair. Hell no. They don't give a shit about fair or whats best for the tournament. They have people crunching numbers figuring out how much money they can make if they expand the tournament and if its enough money then its a done deal. Bottom line.
