Last night Sat Nite host did his monologue on " enough of the famous Chris Rock " slap.. and he was right all week its all about Will Smith taking a swing at Rock, the apologies, what the Academy, police etc going to do.etc
And I'm adding to this by posting something about what happened last Sunday night at the awards.
I like Chris Rock and Will Smith and just let it die I think Rock went to far and so did Will.
I do know what alopecia is. I had a player who had it and he was picked on bullied ,,made fun of .etc And this was classmates at our School . Then he put on a varsity uniform and during warm ups at away gyms and was hounded by the opposing fans that had no mercy. At one away gym the cheer leading advisor was so embarrassed by her fans she grabbed the microphone and said " enough" and apologized to my team . Then their coach who was still in the locker room came out and didn't know what was happening until his cheerleader coach advised him [ they were married } before the jump ball and national anthem grabbed the PA and made an announcement to his home fans that what was being yelled at is not acceptable and will not be tolerated tonight.
I was a little embarrassed but imagine my player. He was about 6'2 didn't start but played great defense and could rebound. He was my 2nd or 3rd player off the bench but he knew if he played defense and rebounded he played just as many minutes as my starters.

We won the game that night and their Principal who I would later get to know when I became a principal 6 years later came into our locker room and again apologized. I remember this was getting so much attention more then the game itself Both teams were 11-3 tied for 2nd place in our conference . It was a big game and they had beaten me at my place. We blew them out and everyone played their A game. And yes we did box and one their star who I think had +25 the 1st time we played them We held him to under double digits
On the bus ride back I talked to the whole team trying to make it a learning experience about putting down people etc It was awkward but I did tell my player what I was going to do.
But the next day in the hallway of my school a student passed him and said something like " melon head". So it wasn't just the other school but my own students. So on Heath Day we had a guest speaker speak on Alopecia and head baldness . and my player had several slides of his head shown as part of the presentation and spoke about it. You couldn't hear a pin drop when he got up to speak Since kindergarten he has been called many many names . He actually mentioned playing on the varsity and going to away gyms but said " Coach thought he knew it all, just get 1 offensive foul, dive for a loose ball and rebound and he won't take you out. lol He knew me.. Anyway no one ever called him a name again at our school . He graduated SUNY Purchase and got his BA and is one of the few players who we could never contact thru facebook or other means .
So when Will went over to smack Chris Rock I can understand some of it but not support it. I just know what Alopecia is and how it can effect someones life . I know its apples and oranges with the rich and famous but that incident just reminded of my experience The host of Sat Nite Live the other night who I don't even know said " enough ".. But lets not put other people down either. sorry for this long ass boring story ..

anyone have the cliff notes for that novel above? If you actually look, Jada shaves her head. Has nothing to do with alopecia. You've been gaslit you dummies.

Well since your on that awards show topic, did Anyone happen to see when Amy Schumer, Wanda Sykes, and the other female were on stage? A racist joke was uttered by Amy Schumer but yet There was no uproar about it due to the fact that she is politically left as is Hollywood

contraian my kid shaved his head only because it leaves patches of hair and also he had no eye brows .. regardless is a disease .. don't think I have been " gaslite" Not sure what Will Smiths wife condition is but I do know my former player condition ..and why call us or me dummies .. all I was doing was the situation reminded me of one of my players. I knew and heard of the disease before Sunday night.

I knew Coach Cooley when he was at Fairfield . an outstanding coach and knew once he left the MAAC for the Big East he would be successful. And yes he has a similar disease and doesn't shave his head and that is why you see those spots. And your right,it hasn;t bothered him but comparing him to my 16 year old is really different. and Cooley is a big guy heavy set and tall ..but he has handled it and coached a solid Providence team this year.
