No idea what my record is, but after getting off to a slow start with this team, I'm getting a better and better read on them.
PC, like most young teams, is jeckyl and hyde on H/A game splits. They got off to a great start this year.... lost 3 in a row, 2 to top 5 teams, all in heartbreaking fashion. Its no wonder they struggled so much on the next 3 games.... hitting a low of all lows. They didn't show up at all at West Virginia.. then they bounce back fora 17-point first half lead vs USF and then blow it. EVERYONE was calling for Keno's head and it was a foregone conclusion that they would lose by 20+ to Louisville and they would go winless for the year.
The problem with this is... everyone failed to realize the extent that being @ home in front of a sellout crowd vs a ranked team can do for a young team. They came out fired up, played amazing defense in the 2nd half (giving up 24 points) and played there hearts out.... The team looked like a team again, and even Vincent Council hit some big shots down the stretch.
Looking at the results this year, it should have been expected though. Looking at there defensive #'s at home, it has been incredible compared to there defense on the road.
Def. Eff at home:
- Dartmouth 0.67 - Yale 0.79 - Morgan State 0.725 - Prarie View 0.89 - CCSU 0.82 - Northeastern 1.09 - URI 0.98 - Brown 0.87 - Alabama 0.91 - Sacred Heart 1.01 - St. Johns 0.98 - Pitt 1.10 - Louisville 0.97
Compared to there #'s on the road, it really is amazing what a difference.
10 out of there top 11 games in EFG% Defense have been at home...
2 of there top 3 games in Defensive TO% for the whole season have been
against Pitt and Louisville... which is pretty incredible to say the
least.
All of a sudden, the team is positive again... they have energy... And they feel like they can win again. Momentum is a HUGE thing for a young team and PC has tons of it right now.
On the flipside, it is a big time letdown spot for Villanova. They are in a sandwich spot... 4 days off one of the best road wins any team has had this season (@ Syracuse in front of a record crowd), and then have Georgetown in 3 days at home. Between these two huge games? They are playing @ a 1-6 PC team.... in the middle of a snow storm. I expect them to come out flat big time.
Overall, its a very good spot for PC to be in.. they have momentum... and its an incredibly flat spot for Villanova. Villanova also doesnt have a big inside presence, the type that usually kills PC. If Villanova wants to run, they will play right into PC's game.
PC is going to cover and have a good chance at winning SU and pulling the surprising upset. There will be a good crowd... due to a likely snow day here in Providence, students are back on campus and a top 5 team is coming to town.... Keno has consistently gotten his teams to play toe to toe with the best teams in the country coming to Providence (#1 Pitt in 2008... Upset UConn last year.... Beat #15 Louisville and had Pitt down 4 with 1 minute left earlier in the season).
Providence +5.5
Providence +195

I just couldn't pull the trigger on this one. I expect a letdown a lil from the Cats, and as someone stated, this is usually a tough trip for them. I think PC is up early and Nova pulls it out in the end but doesn't cover.

Thats actually been the opposite of PC home games this year.... They typically come out slow out of the gate, and run teams down in the 2nd half.
(PC is outscoring opponents by just 3.7 in the 1st half, compared to 9.7 in the 2nd half)

BL- at 1st, I was looking to see if they even made it up there. I think they traveled last night though, otherwise they might be stranded on 95 somewhere
