Had Valparaiso won the conference tournament it’s almost a certainty Oakland would have been in the NIT, and even if this is what bumped them, coach Greg Kampe had his sights set on the tournament before the NIT field was even announced and even leaked that Oakland would be willing to pass on an NIT invite to play in Vegas. After looking at the tournament field, it almost looks as if the committee had to scramble to find seven more teams to come play with Oakland and fill out the tournament field and when you throw the very unusual three week layoff in the mix this has to favor the team that had been planning and preparing for this from the start. Oakland is arguably the most recognizable squad in this tournament from a national standpoint and they have a future NBA talent on the roster in Kay Felder as the junior guard led the nation in assists this year and was the fourth leading scorer in the country averaging 24.4 points per game. Oakland has a couple seniors on the team but the bulk of this Grizzlies squad will be together next year, including Felder as it’s not likely he would leave early, so we don’t see as much lineup experimentation by the Grizzlies as we may see from other teams in this tournament who will use this as a barometer to gauge the outlook of next season. From a matchup perspective Oakland drew an ideal first round opponent as the Grizzlies score in bunches, leading the nation in scoring offense, while Towson struggles mightily at the offensive end and relies on their defense to grind out games. While this may have worked in the CAA this year, it’s not going to work against a team that boasts a pro talent in the likes of Felder and a host of other guys that can score and while the knock on Oakland this year has been their defense we don’t see the Towson offense being good enough to exploit this weakness. Many thought Oakland would be in the NCAA tournament this year and at the very least the NIT as their only real competition in conference was Valparaiso and the Grizz were excellent during the non-conference schedule with a win at Washington, an overtime loss to Michigan State and close hard fought battles with the likes of Virginia, Colorado State and Georgia. Towson was lackluster at best outside of conference play and the two times they stepped out to play a half decent team from a bigger conference they were smacked by Oklahoma State and Ole Miss by 17 and 16 points respectively. Towson also suffered a disappointing finish to the season with a loss in their regular season finale to eventual conference champs UNC Wilmington and an ugly loss in the first round of the CAA Tournament to Northeastern and we wonder just how much Towson really wants their season to continue. The Vegas 16 was always the target for this Oakland team, and we expect Greg Kampe to have his squad motivated and prepared as they come out with an offensive onslaught and hang a big number on the Tigers tonight, covering the number in the process.

You could wait and see if this drops to -5 or buy the hook and play it at -5 but either way Oakland should smoke this number tonight. There is still a lot going on in the way of college basketball this week with the NIT/CBI/CIT and Vegas 16 all in action leading up to the final four. I've been waiting for this game since the field was announced as I like Oakland to win the entire thing here. Towson can't score and I expect Oakland to be up for this game and turn in a better defensive effort than usual tonight.

Do you have any concern with the reverse line movement in this game topflight? UCSB is getting smoked...

new orleans is plagued with injuries and anthony davis is out for months with surgery.

knicks been winning and on a run until losing to lebron james and company.

The New York Knicks are:

8-1 ATS in their last 9 after allowing 100 points or more in their previous game.

New orleans pelicans are:

0-6 ATS in their last 6 vs. NBA Atlantic.

Knicks -6 as carmelo will try to utilize this chance to to eat the pelicans alive today. I mean why not? Worse than losing to the worst team in the league is playing against a handicap team and losing.

One small suggestion -- about the wording, "loser", the category of cappers who post plays that lose.

The word, "loser" carries a terrible stigma, but I know that you don't mean that the listed cappers are "losers" at all. You are simply listing the plays that lost by whomever picked 'em.

Perhaps we could find a substitute word?

I've looked up a thesaurus and checked out synonyms for "loser", and all of them were just awful to use next to names of cappers.

My suggestion is this:

"Wins" ~~ Capper 1, Capper 2, Capper 3

"Losses" ~~ Capper A, Capper B, Capper C

This way, it's completely non-personal, even though people are keeping track of who's posting wins, vs who are posting losses.

I just flat-out don't want to see anyone who posts any losses to be in a category called "loser." Bad.

NILL has been keeping UCSB out of the paint and forcing turn overs, mix that with all the steals and UCSB fouls and you get NILLs lead. 12 points for NILL are from the line alone. If UCSB can get a handle on their foul game or better yet force NILL into getting UCSB a quick bonus they may catch up. UCSB plays better second halves imho. If they actually do catch up I can see this game going to OT. I doubt UCSB will cover the spread though.

The Lakers have essentially quit...3-7 ATS last 10 vs.a hot team, finding it's defense, Utah 7-3 ATS...this was always a tough spot on a B2B at altitude, but when you know you're coach could be gone, he's been busting your behind all season, and the bench is absolutely putrid....

It makes for blowout city...I had the misfortune to watch the Lakers bench last night and North Carolina would kill that squad...no penetration or skill passing the ball, poor shooting and like the starters, horrible transition D...

Utah usually shows up..no matter who's playing...feast for them

Short but sweet

Toronto gunning for 50th win at home today

Toronto has scored >= 104 in all 10 out of 10 home games in March!!!

OKC been giving up >= 104 on the road in about half of their March road games.

Terrence Ross not playing for Toronto, hopefully that will not matter. Both teams in a comfy playoff seeding spot so no real advantage either way except Toronto maybe has a chance to catch Cleveland for top seed.

Goes without saying OKC games usually lead to elevated possessions by opponents over their normal average due to pace. I think Toronto will comfortably score near 110, especially considering how their offense has been looking lately.

I've noticed something here. If the fav team is either losing or tie or winning by a little in the 1H, take them again for the 2H.

old dom won by 2 in 1H then 2H, they killed
ussb loses by 11 1H, then 2H, they killed

however, if the fav team blows the other team by a ton, take the dog team for 2H since they will be playing hungry and catching up and the fav team will be trying to milk the clock and stop balling.

Just saying with observation in ncaab

Nice comeback by UCSB. I thought they would get back in the game but they ended up winning convincingly.

Reverse line movement doesn't really concern me that much here. As far as I know Oakland at full strength. -5 is the line I wanted here and was willing to pay -120 for. Unless Oakland shoots terribly there's very few scenarios I see Towson covering here.

Regarding RLM...it's a notable thing but I've seen just as many plays with RLM lose as win in long run. I also think it's more relavent in bigger games taking a ton of action. I don't think this Towson/Oakland game is drawing a ton of action in the grand scheme of things so I'm not as worried about it.

I will say this. I didn't expect this much movement in the Oakland game. Thought it might dip to 5 and go back to 6.

That being said I'm just not a huge trend/numbers/line movement guy. I go off of what I know. I've seen both of these teams play quite a bit this year and I think Oakland absolutely hammers them.

Toronto should do well when they pit their bench versus OKC bench. Hopefully their starters don't feel the urge to play huge minutes ha ha.

I also hopped on the TWolves/Knicks/Oakland bandwagon. Did a teaser on 'em and also played Oakland straight up -5. Hopefully they mean what they say in terms of looking forward to this tourney.
