I think the refs felt they had to call something b/c of the way the DUKE pt grd was flailing his arms and his reaction was like "hey man get your arms off me" Also, the UTAH pt grd deliberately tried to foul to see if the refs would call anything. You might question that assumption, but the UTAH player who tried to tie up was adamant he had tied up the ball for jump ball change of possession, and reacted so all could see. UTAH players were upset with the officiating which was ticky tack. Refs put two of DUKE's guards on the FT line for hand checks (DUKE's guards shoot almost 90%). So, back to the point which is the refs were being challenged to make a call.
The bad part was that everyone had already shook hands, and they were starting tv interviews. Yet refs had the obvious foul. Maybe their integrity was at stake from the challenge by the UTAH guard (who was frustrated by the hand check fouls and then the no-call on the jump ball).
LAST POINT:
VEGAS LOST MONEY ON THE LAST FT. It is a myth to say Vegas dialed in for the last FT to be made.
78% of bettors were on DUKE -5 or -5.5
The crowd MOANED out loud when he missed the first FT. He then focused for the last one, and the crown cheered REALLY LOUD. The majority of the crowd was on the DUKE point spread.
NO FIX. Just weird ending. Poor officiating all game long. Huge vacuous arena that caused a lot of misses from long range and even jump shots.

Athletic guard play from DUKE was the difference. Okafor was a non factor except the attention he got. Lot of penetration drives from Duke guards, and not enough from the Utah guards. End of story.
On to SUNDAY:
I think DUKE has enough to beat Gonzaga.
They play relaxed, and take advantage of opportunistic plays. Zags have enough inside to lock down Okafor, but Pangos will have a long night vs the athletic lanky guards that DUKE has (just like the speedy, skinny, lanky athletic guards of UK and Ville).
Gonzaga has a terrible record against teams ranked in the Top 5 (I think they are winless).

The outside shooting will not be there. Arena in Houston has killed outside shooting. Have to penetrate drive, dish out, and also go inside. Not sure Gonzaga can keep up with DUKE. DUKE is younger, but younger teams have done well in past NCAA tournaments over more experienced teams, like Gonzaga is. I'd like to see Gonzaga make their first trip there. They have been a great team and program for decades, But the NCAA tries to trip up newcomers, and this looks to me to be the Zags final game, as programmed by the NCAA committee. Huge arena they knew would benefit a team with driving guard play and a huge big man--DUKE.

DUKE -2.5

Utah player was trying to get a hold of the ball for a jump ball call. He didn't realize Duke had the possession arrow. Otherwise if Utah had the arrow then it would have been a great play with 4 or 5 seconds left on the clock.

Possession arrow is a rule that will be changed in the near future b/c it's lame, but point is that refs realize it looked like they gave up officiating with the no call on the tie up, then had the obvious arm grab by the Utah PLAYER (THAT WAS DUMB AND that is the person UTAH backers should be hating on) that made them look bad...I don't think any UTAH player would foul with 4 sec left in a game down 5

Cost me my cover, so I was not impressed with call. They should have let it go in my opinion. However, what happened at the end of the game, despite the weeping and nashing of teeth was right.
No sense re-hashing yesterday's dirty laundry, personally speaking the game was over, the foul was not going change the game I would have let it go. But if the ref did not enforce it, everybody would have all kinds of conspiracy theory's for not calling it.
I'm not nieve enough to not think some games are fixed is some form or fashion. But it should not effect our pocket books over time.
Right?

Its not all about Vegas. Who knows maybe the ref had some money on it. I surprised it actually worked in my favor. Usually I on other side of what happens. What I did not like was when Duke was up 15 they played bad, than all sudden picks there game up. I don't know a lot weird garbage happens. I just play play games and hope to be on right side. That is all we can do

I can't count the 1/2 point wins and loses I've had this year. It was nice to end up on the winning side(Duke -5), especially with a 3-team parlay. Looked like a deliberate foul to me.
Really don't like all the publicity the free throw created concerning the point spread. Not good for college basketball.

There was a foul before he was even tied up. The refs screwed up by not calling the first foul. In the end they got it right.
I can guarantee if you bet a team that is getting hacked with 6 seconds left you would be crying for them to call the foul. If you are on the other side you don't want the refs to do their job and look the other way.

Great call
NOBODY is talking about that..............

DUKE was trying to run shot clock as soon as they got up by 13. Missed shots are unpredictable, but the conservative play actually helped Utah to close the gap. I think coach K assumed Utah could not hit 3s to get back into it--nothing wrong with that logic since no one was hitting from outside.
I think Gonzaga will try establish an inside game and get at least 2 fouls on Okafor, as part of the full game strategy. I will be surprised as anyone to see Gonzaga hit outside 3s over 30%

What bothers me the most is the blatant traveling by the Duke player during the last second tie-up. He's dragging one foot across the floor while hopping on his other and the refs just let it go while also not calling the obvious tie-up. Then, they all of a sudden decide to postpone celebrations and watch replays of how many tenths of second were left for the last foul.

I'm with ya, but the last time I played ball is when I was 12, trying to emulate the Lew Alcindor skyhook!!!! Witch I still love and I'm surprised nobody even try's it.
Whatever. The game has changed, the charging call is now against the defender, I have seen multiple traveling situations in today's game.
I don't know if it's better or worse. You have to depend on people who truely love the game. The game is really different from 40 years ago.
So who know's? is it better or worse? I still love naacb. Instead of trying to make it like the pro's with a shorter time clock, maybe if you want to Basketball better, you should go the other direction.
Off hand hand I have not followed the Milwaukee Bucks since Herb Kohl bought the team, Don Nelson ( the greatest coach that ever was alive) & Karl were told to leave town. They have been worse then crappy ever since.
Now we got got Jason Kidd, and some owners that want to win, now I'm starting to like bp again. Did not know who Kidd was until he got here, but I love him now!
Point is this. I think the pro's got it wrong, Make the nba, closer to naacb.
I know I'm going to get my face ripped off.
Who's with me?
