Florida -2.5/BYU Play and Write Up
I do see it at 3 now at most places…. I don’t like to look at seasonal stats, as with the Tourney, its how the team is currently playing and “gellin’” so to speak.
Scoring: Advantage FloridaThis Gator team has 4 players that average double digits. Balanced as it gets. Erving Walker will distribute. Fredette will get points, but this is a team sport, and when you get to this point in the Tourney, everyone will need to be utilized. Both teams averaging 73.6 points per game last 5, but, Florida has the advantage as they have more depth than the one man show. Although BYU’s offense in scoring is ranked 8th in the Country, I give the advantage to Florida here.
Defense: Advantage Florida
The Zags Defense is 112th in the country, so no surprise there that BYU got the scoring going.
BYU’s Defense is ranked 165th in the Country; 220th in Rebounding
Florida’s Defense is ranked 48th in the Country. The stat I like here is that they rank 33rd
in opponents 3 pt %, something BYU will rely heavily on in this game due to the
size disadvantage. They won’t get a lot of
paint points as they just don’t have the size to compete down there, which leads me to the next advantage.....
It was Brandon Davies, but we all know where sex gets you. BYU’s rebounding advantage numbers for the year can be thrown out at this point. No Davies = less rebounds. The Gators Alex Tyus checks in at 6'8", Vernon Macklin and Chandler Parsons are listed at 6'10" and that should be enough size for the Gators to control rebounds. Rebounds win games, and especially offensive ones, which gives teams those 2nd chance points. In their last game against Gonzaga, BYU only grabbed 2 offensive boards, but shot 52% from the field, and 50% from the FT line, so not many opportunities to get those offensive boards. Anything above 50% is nuts.
Strength of Schedule: Advantage Florida
Florida had 37th ranked toughest schedule in the Country
BYU had the 51st ranked toughest schedule in the Country
