I think this is a good time to get invested in some futures for winning the national championship. Anyone else made any investments? Who do you like and who do you hate? These are a few that I have small investments in at this point...
I can still get Michigan St at +8000 and still may make another small investment there. I love Virginia, but at +1000 I just don't see the value at this point.

UTAH a decent pick, UNC as well...I don't like Oklahoma at all. Villanova could cut the nets down as well

Im not getting as good of odds on WV as you are. I do like that pick and should probably put some money on the as well. I think Oklahoma is a solid team with a lot of talent - They will improve after going through the gauntlet of conference play.

Obviously by the time the tourney starts these teams could also fit that bill:
Gonzaga if they shore up the defense Vcu same Kansas same Ohio state same Michigan St better on offense
Teams who don't have it this year:
-Wiisconsin, defense isn't nearly as solid as past seasons. -Duke, defense is an embarrassment -ND, same boat as Duke no defense nor physicality -Louisville, offense not consistent enough

Debated on VCU and Michigan St... Gonzaga crossed my mind. I am a Kansas fan and I love their bigs but never a fan of the guards self recruits. Like I mentioned earlier I really like Virginia but at this point I feel that the value is gone based one what I am being offered. I think I am going to stand firm with what I am playing now - only other two adds would be VCU and Mich St at this point. VCU currently at 100/1 and Michigan St at 80/1. I am currently getting 10/1 on Virginia

Dukes defense is always brutal. I know the big kid is young, but every time I watch him play, his head is always turned on weak side penetration and guards drive the ball right up his back. it was the same way last year with the interior D.
Only reason I took ND is because if they get and stay hot from deep in the tourney they can beat anyone. I know you can say that with a lot of teams but they have multiple guys that get light it up and hang 90 on a lot of teams

Im not sure how you put together such a compelling list and then at the end garbage the bed with a VCU pick. Havoc is so overrated. Their brand of offense fkin stinks. No shot at a title. I like most of the rest though, good luck

Vcu is 12-4 postseason record the last 5 years...how's their pressure overrated? Not only that but they have one of the best players in the nation to take over in close games.

Hows their strength of schedule in those last 5 years? And im not sure who you speak of being one of the best players, maybe graham because he can score. I can tell you right now, Nobody means more to that team than Briante Weber, so if you weren't talkin about him then it doesn't matter. Also, the last 5 years have nothing to do with this year. They gave up 70 to the vols(who cant score) Nearly 80 to Nova and Toledo. Virginia did absolutely anything they wanted with that D. The fact of the matter is that when they play decent competition they lose, aside from the UNI game. They Limped past Illinois st and got outplayed by URI for 37 minutes in there last game. PLEASE tell me how they aren't overrated

We have no idea who they will be matched up with in the tournament. Get some teams away from their home floor with some shaky guard play and they can do some damage. They've proven they can win the lower scoring grind it out game like they did @ Rhode Island 65-60, or the higher scoring 93-87 game like they did with Northern Iowa who is extremely underrated. There's still plenty of time left for teams to improve or get worse... anything can happen. If you asked me to pick 9 teams to win the NC, they probably wouldn't be in my top 9... but at the value I am getting them at, I think it was worth a stab. I wouldn't say they lose when they play decent competition. They have more than a handful of good wins on the season both home and away.

Utah is a really nice add at 70:1. That team has heart. I had them laying a stinker vs ASU last night, (with Zona on deck) and they simply took care of business. That's a good sign.
I like WVU as well; love their defense. But, for a deep run in the tourney you need some offensive proficiency. They don't have it, and I don't see them stringing a few games together to make a deep run. If they get behind to a team that is prolific on offense then they are going to have a tough time getting out of holes...
Dont like that Okie play. I had them as a lean preseason, but I have not liked what I have seen from the eye test. They really wilt against any teams with any defensive pressure. The WVU game was the line in the sand for me on Oklahoma. They literally had a hard time just dribbling the ball vs pressure defense.
Nova looks strong. Tough conference w/ competitive games. Really a team I regret leaving off my future (although I have to win the conference)
I preseason invested on UNC, Gonzaga, UVA, and SMU. I like them still. Have bad numbers now on a few, and good numbers on a few. I think UNC is going to have a tough time if they cant find some more scoring options then Paige. Someone has to step up. I really like my UVA play. Fundamentals.
Best luck for anyone with any of the aforementioned futures is for Kentucky to get bounced somewhere between the F4 and F32. If a team like MSU, ND, or a Utah of sorts (in terms of 3-point shooting) gets hot they will beat this UK team in the early rounds. Unfort, if UK makes the Final Four I think their focus and overall dominance will make them winning it all inevitable.
Point is that I think it is anyone's to win (from the teams listed above for the most part)
Will be fun.

Bottom line, if they get bounced, it's no sweat off my back. This is the first year I have done futures because I have money in my bankroll to allow it. If they all miss, I won't lose any sleep.

Agree Lucrative - Something is not right with Paige. I have been saying this for a while. Their run totally depends on him getting in a groove and scoring like he can. He's got some time before the tournament starts to get things turned around. Also Williams has to correct whatever issues is causing them to give up so many offensive rebounds. I don't ever remember a team that is so good at rebounding on the offensive side of the floor, but then so awful at rebounding on the defensive side of the floor. If they can correct that and get Paige on track, look out.

I was speaking of Weber, he controls the game for them. The last 5 years shows me that Shaka can coach them up to win tournament basketball. This also being vcu' best team ever

Totally agree.
I think it was all about confidence issues for Paige. His fundamentals are there. I was telling some folks the other day that he just needs to string a few games together to get his groove back. I think he has lately (vs Ville and NCSU). If UNC can get someone else from the outside (notably Jackson) then UNC will be a tough opponent come March.
Ive been really perplexed by the offensive rebound debacle. I really think it has to do with working on positioning. I really think Johnson/Meeks/Hicks rely too much on trying to block the shot instead of altering or holding their defensive presence. You can't block every shot. When one of them jumps for a shot, it leaves just one front court player to box out offensive board crashing players. I would like to see more aggressive face guarding and 'hold your ground' front line defense. Make them force a bad shot and subsequently box out..
I also think it has a lot to do with Roy's prolific pace. He has them trained to run the floor after made/missed shots, and the UNC players are all too focused on getting a head start. You CAN NOT score in transition if the other team gets the ball back.
Plus I think its toughness. You have to teach that boxing out and crashing the boards is what is imperative to winning a game.
