How long will this last?

Nothing like this has ever happened before, and I don't know whether its just me or not, but everything feels different now. No NBA, no NHL, most likely no baseball(announcement coming next few hours), and also most likely there will be no March Madness, although nothing has been confirmed as of now. Do you guys think that the dance will be pushed back to a later date? I mean they have to play it at some point, right? Or will they just go ahead and focus on next season if this thing lasts a while. 

I really just don’t think anyone knows for certain at this point. While i personally believe there is an element of irrational panic, I think the concern in the medical community is that they don’t know exactly what they’re dealing with. 

this is not backed by anything, and i have no scientific background, but based off how quickly it has spread (seemingly overnight), and how long it lasts (~30 days), i'd say 1-2 months.

However, I know it's not that easy for you. I would suggest paying for it, but not sure those 0-4 1-3 days are making you any extra money to be able to afford it.

Why did straights get banned??

I wasnt to sure which you are referring too. So i will answer both.

1. I personally dont last too long but my 2nd round tend to last longer. And as i age i tend to last longer to.

2. For banning NBA and NCAA. I believe 2-4 weeks. They r just being cautious at the moment. Athletics can fight corona without any issue. So as long as they introduce some control it should be back to normal

The aim of the sports bans is to slow the spread down. If everyone were to catch this virus at once, the system (hospitals, medical labs, pharmacological infrastructure) is overloaded and there will be more potential deaths that could have been prevented by slowing the spread, and flattening out the rate of infected.

Read a good article on the Spanish flu, and how the city of Philly wanted to have 200K people march in the streets to support the WWI was effort during the Spanish Flu in 1918.  Philly had a 5X higher death rate than other cities that banned all large gatherings due to that one marching event.  the higher death rate was directly attributed to the overload of hospitals/medical care being overloaded from a spike in infected people from the march, and the close contact of all those people.

I think if we can see a leveling of the infection rate within a month timeframe from all the large gathering bans, then they (NCAA/NBA/NHL/FIFA/etc) will reconsider games with no fans to start.  Just my 2 cents.
