info on Washington vs West Virginia game (huge write up)

I have seen 80% of washingtons games and a handful of west virginia games and i am going to break this game down for you.

first and foremost many of you guys saw my write up on the last game washington played vs new mexico .   i had washington for a small play(winner).  washington /new mexico first half over huge (winner) and washington new mexico game over huge (loser by 4 points cuz new mexico laid a SUPER EGG) but im not making excuses.

anyway on to today....this game is very simple and im going to break it down for you as easy as i can.  If washington can ride their momentum and jump out to a early lead by getting quick buckets in transition forcing west virginia to play at a fast pace this game will come down to the wire and could go either way based on the last couple of possessions.  plain and simple can washington impose their style of game on west virginia...this game reminds me a lot of the game when washington played texas a&m earlier in the year where washington beat them 73 -64 a & m is a solid defensive team that gave up 73 points to this team and fell short I was watching that game and actually played a & m..... that was the game where derrick roland broke his leg in that game washington controlled tempo and i was lucky to win ats as a & m needed all 8.5 points to win especially after the roland injury...ironically west virginia also played a & m and beat them 73 - 66

back to today, i think the magic number is 70 for west virginia. if they can hold washington under 70 points they win this game. as soon as they go over 70 and the more points they score over 70 they will be skating on thin ice! washington loves to run and lorenzo loves using his bench! 

lets look at  west virginias losses....purdue gave up 77) notre dame gave up 70) syracuse  72)  villanova  82)  pitt 98) and uconn 73) so their you have it. west virginia hasnt lost a game this year when giving up less that 70...in their last 5 games the in which they obviously won them the total for the games have not gone over 127..this is what they need to do to win.....im telling everyone right now if this turns into a track meet west virginia will lose!

 what i am doing is laying off the total until the 2nd half I wanna see which way this game is gonna go, also i have a small play on washington money line. i repeat (small play) at +170.. what i would like everyone to gather with this thread is to decide for themselves who is gonna control tempo... bottom line washington has momentum and they are playing with great confidence....all year everyone has said they are a great home team and a horrible road team....but they have obviously proven their critics wrong! whereas im not sure how  west virginia will respond to their loss.....all i know is west virginia is not oppose to pushing the ball as they did with many games this year, but im sure (huggins) may be just a little to smart to fall into this trap....so i guess we are gonna have to wait and see.....

also adding  syracuse 1st half! butler is a second half team im not saying they come back and win today but they always struggle to get out of the box where syracuse has came out firing...

Huggins already stated that even though Wash loves to run off of misses, that you can't do that off makes.  Look for WVU to play much of the game, especially early on, with a big line up and have numbers very similar to the Mizzu game. Tremendous length on defense and plenty of muscle inside offensively. Only took 47 shots, mostly high percentage and drew a tremendous amount of fouls, 25 - 33 from the line.Not too many easy transition hoops there.  He's been around plenty long enough that if he gets in a game like Alsford did, 26 - 66,  5 - 17 from 3 pt range, and 7 - 17 from the line, that all those misses will turn into easy transition baskets.  Early in the year Wash played a game against the Hoyas.  Two different halves of basketball.  If you remember the game, think about the second half.  Look for the same today and yes you might get a backdoor cover if WVU doesn't make their free throws at the end.  I think they will BOL 

It's hard to go back to the 1st hf of the season & compare UW then to UW right now. LR was fishing for the right rotation & finally found it. The Huskies have been fairly fortunate in that they haven't faced a team with a dominant big man...........the type of teams they struggle with. They can either run you or play hf court........unless you're huge in the post, which WV isn't.

 Huskies run 9-10 deep as well..............I like UW +5 & under 141.

Well GOOD LUCK tonight, if you see my post, I too think WV only has a chance in a low scoring affair, as WASH is 2-6 when they score 70 or less .... and coach HUGGY knows this stat too  !!

This game reminds me of the analysis that the Marquette coach gave before the washington game. He said that we need to play defense and tempo control. If we do that we will win. If we try to get into a track meet, Huskies have too much athleticism and will wear us down. He was right then and still is right now. Whoever controls the tempo of this game wins.

your right New York C.  the only really thing that scares me is the
1 -3 -1 zone defense that w virginia sometimes throws at teams...very few teams know how to break that. and its nearly impossible to get penetration  off of it so you really have to run baseline or be hitting your outside shots.  huggins may deliberately slow this game down and like i said if west virginia gets the early lead and they control tempo from tip this may cause problems for washington....the first 5 minutes are huge!  im not worried about huggins running 4 forwards out there like he said he may do to be longer ......

 Romar & Huggins have a history............when Romar was younger he played a lot in the Cinci area. Like he said, it's no secret to either team what they have to do to win...........but executing it is another story.

i hope that the refs call the game fair.....thats all i ask for

washington wont make this a track meet WVU are well coached and a good team at controlling games .. keeping em low scoring and playing there style of basketball .. ive had washington every game up until now .. im a big pondexter fan and I.T is a ridiculous little man .. WVU are simply the better team .. and Huggy bear will make sure they come too play .. if any game tonight could be an upset its this or the Xavier game .. but i think WVU are just too good .. either way mon frere good luck .. plus no Truck bryant sux for WVU but oh well hes played like shit lately anyways 

Washington has not played anyone like WV and their toughness.  I think the Mounties lock down Washington and frustrate them.
