What a choke job. The guy gets by on the talent that wants to play at the "big name school". Man is a horrible in game coach and his players have no heart.
You just dont lose that game at home. Just cant happen, especially to a box squad like Duke. Doubt either team makes the Elite 8, thats if they get to the Sweet 16.

2 titles in 6 years.......he can coach. Refs kept duke in it! Double bonus with 10 mins left! Curry taking a stroll from half court to shoot a 3? WHAT THE FUCK

Hes a fucking idiot period. The only thing worse than his awful coaching is his whole aww chucks Im just a good ole country boy routine which is completely nauseating. He should be selling used cars not coaching basketball.

I could have won titles with those teams. He should have slowed the game down, got the ball to better free throw shooters and guarded the 3 better late.
Horrible coaching job plain and simple.

Lets not forget what he did...or didnt do...at kansas. His career didnt start when he stepped onto UNC's campus. Great recruiter (kinda easy when you're at unc though, see Matt Dougherty), not as great of a coach.

Both years those teams had 5 NBA 1st rounders. If Roy doesnt have that he has absolutely no fucking clue. And what about two years ago when he couldnt even get into the tournament lol. This guy is a complete clown.

Recruiting is part of coaching and he gets some great players there. It doesn't matter how you do it as long as you do it. I suspect they will come back and win at Duke later in the year.

I assume this thread is meant as a joke.

I like the style that NC plays and how he keeps them fresh and running, but I agree, he should have slowed it down up 10 with 2-3 minutes to go.
But you gotta admit, Duke got a few obvious calls at the end. Henson's phantom tip on Kelley's air ball and the 4 step walk by Curry! Still the Dukies hit those 3s then and all night. That's laziness on NC's part.
Poor Zeller. Great, great game and he ends up sort of the goat with 3 bad plays at the end. Freak tip in, misses one FT and then doesn't get in Rivers face or even close!

Not a joke. Put him on a team that doesnt have 3 or 4 nba players and he has no chance.
Put it this way. GIve Coach K UNC and Roy gets Duke. Who you gonna put your money on?

I don't know about being the worst coach in all of college hoop, and I had zippo on this game, but his in-game coaching at the end of this one was so predictably silly.
Up 10 with 2 minutes to go and he hits the patented panic button and calls the "madatory by the book" time out I could tell just by looking at his face as the team came off the floor that he was causing more panic and loss of confidence in his players than if he would have just let them play it out. I think that my calling that time out, more often than not you're putting a lot more emphasis on the fact that things are not going your way and tightness in play and attitude works its way in.
I gotta give Phil Jackson credit,,, he is the only coach that comes to mind, that didn't always call that "panic TO" when you give up 7 or 8 straight points with the lead...
It's another one of those situations where the "safe" coaching call is to use the TO,, If you still lose that way, you take less heat from the dreaded all powerful press/public than if you let your players fight through a bad stretch, and lose also. Problem with this though, is that I believe you're actually hurting your teams chances of winning, by taking this "standard" coaching method.

I dont know about worst but definitely major choker big time. The 2 titles he has, just about any coach wouldve won with all that talent. Look at all the Kansas teams he choked with. I can remember 2 specifically where he had 4 future NBA guys and lost(ha both times to Syracuse, 1996 and 2003) and lets not forgot UNc's worst defeat ever , this year to FSU.

hes been overrated for a while always believed he was more of a recruiter than anything, for one hes a terrible in game coach. When i look at his national titles at UNC i see a team's talent that won depsite his terrible coaching

if recruiting was a big part of coaching ron zook would have a job. ron zook could sell water to a well but would have a hard time spelling water, let alone knowing what the score is in the game he is coaching
roy williams has done an awful job this year, but the team does not have a three point shooter, and in college ball these days that is everything. tyler zeller is more to blame for the loss in this game, his final 3 plays (missed ft, goaltending, awful defense) cost his team dearly.
rick barnes has done much less with more than any coach in america, why is he considered a great coach??

Pushed on my 1H bet, got caught up at work so I couldn't pound that game (luckily) but even had I lost, I wouldn't have blamed ROY. Just saw the replay of the game;
Train, nomrally appreciate your threads, but can't blame ROY here. Barnes missed a couple from the stripe, so did ZELLER. As a HEELS fan there's nobody else I'd rather at the stripe than those 2 guys, especially ZELLER. Factor in that the kid was on the bench for the last 10 mins, and no shit he might be a bit "cool" coming off the pine. Thank the refs for that one, and the couple of walks they let slide on PLUMLEE, CURRY, and ZELLER tipping into his own net, and RIVERS having the night of his life, never knew he had such a great 3 pt shot with that awkward release, let alone a couple step backs too. ZELLER definitely should have been playing tighter and let him shoot the 2 point jumper, the worst that can happen would have been OT. All these points are just to mention that NC did collapse, but DOOK didn't only have a horseshoe up their ass, they had the whole freakin stable.
iceman67 I watch enough HEELS games to know, that ROY often lets his teams run without calling timeouts and is more frustrating to watch as 6 and 8-0 run turn into 10+, but he has faith in the kids. He was telling KENDALL to push the ball and rightfully so in my opinion. Why revert to COACH K's negative style of play and start playing stall ball when your team isn't a great halfcourt team. They should have continued running it down their soft ass throats even with 3 to play. What happend though, KENDALL slowed it down, led to a costly TO.. BARNES took the time down, let to an offensive foul. This wasn't ROY's fault, ROY was hollering for the boys to push it, they just changed their style of play and everything fell for the DOOKIES.

I dont think he got "schooled" by coach K. Curry traveled and hit a 3, Zeller tipped and airball into their own basket, missed a free throw, and Rivers hit an amazing shot to win in. Its sports, things happen a lot of the time that are not on the coach
