The Auburn Tigers enter this afternoon’s game with a record of 7-6, 1-4 in the Southeastern Conference. Coach Bruce Pearl’s squad got off to a rough start in SEC play but has played several close games. Despite losing nearly all of their scoring from a year ago, Coach Pearl has reloaded the roster with a 5-star Point Guard and a talented Top 50 big man to round out a roster that still packs an offensive punch.
The Tigers have looked like a totally different team over the last two games thanks to Sharife Cooper gaining his eligibility and entering the lineup. The 19th ranked player in the Class of 2020, Cooper has made an immediate impact on the court for Auburn. He opened up his college career against SEC leading Alabama and scored a team-high 26 points to go with 9 assists as Auburn pushed the Crimson Tide down the wire before losing 94-90. Cooper followed that performance up with a 28 point, 12 assist stat line in a win over Georgia. Quite simply, this is a different team with Cooper in the lineup.
Auburn always plays fast, but they have taken that to a whole different level with Cooper at Point Guard. The Tigers were averaging a little under 75 possessions per game through their first 11 games and have increased that number to over 84 possessions with Sharife Cooper. That would be the second fastest pace in the country. Additionally, they were averaging 74 points per game pre-Cooper and have scored 90 and 95 points in the two games with him running the show. Auburn is also 25th nationally in 3-pointers made per game at 9.7 and 11th in blocks per game with 5.6.
In typical Bruce Pearl fashion, this Auburn team will play extremely fast with a lot of freedom. Their first goal on every trip down the court is to score as quickly as possible off of a long throw ahead pass or early 3-point shot in transition. That goal has been even more apparent now that Sharife Cooper has the keys to the offense. All five guys will run the floor hard after both makes and misses to see if they can get an easy bucket before the defense is set.
In the half-court, Auburn is a Motion team that will primarily be 4-around-1 but will space into some 5-out as well depending on their lineup. In their 4-around-1 they set a lot of ballscreens with their post player. They are not looking to throw the ball inside. They keep the floor spaced with multiple shooters in the game at all times and allow Cooper to attack the basket off of the dribble. We need to go UNDER all ballscreens set for Cooper or switch them to stay between him and the basket.
Auburn is primarily a half court man-to-man team defensively. One thing they will do is “ICE” as many ballscreens as they can. That means that the on-ball defender jumps out and forces the ball handler towards the baseline. They are able to be more aggressive on the perimeter and try to apply some ball pressure because they are so good at protecting the rim. Auburn is 11th in the country with 5.6 blocks per game. They blocked 14 shots in their last game against Georgia. That means that we need to do a good job of playing off of two feet at the end of UK's drives and use shot fakes around the basket.

Who can possibly answer that question Other than to say- Put in the work
Handicapping is so fluid and everchanging- thats like asking Peyton Manning "how can I be a great quarterback"? Might take 10 days to answer the question.. Leave him alone and let him to the work. Back off everyone, let him breath. No autographs, no selfies and no questions- This isn't a press conference

I don't study Kentucky, but with all the one and doners/freshmen it seems to me like the teams just keep better as the seasons progress. That win vs Florida was impressive. It looks like they are getting it together
