Your dumber than I thought man your assuming the defensive player will immediately be in position to foul before Stauskas goes up. If you replay the last play you can see that Stauskas had a extra step on his defender got a dribble off before the defender was back in position. If Kentucky where to foul Stauskas would be shooting 3 free throws and the game would of gone to OT.

Your dumber than I thought man. With 2.6 secs left to go you would need to be in perfect defensive position to foul before the player goes into his shooting motion. Staukas clearly had a step on his defender and he even had time to take a extra dribble but he didn't he shot it right away. If kentucky took your advice this game would of gone to overtime. No coach in there right mind would advice his team up 3 with 2.6 secs left to go to foul thats just dumb. Worst case scenario the other team makes a 30 foot contested prayer and the game goes to overtime.

 You're even dumber than you thought that I was. First of all, I am advocating that NOT fouling was the proper call and secondly, it's you're not your if you are striving for grammatical excellence.

i think they did the right thing worse case it gets tied by a miracle 3 pointer at the buzzer from half court or beyond good call coach cal

It comes down to 2 scenarios.

You foul Michigan and take a chance they make first FT and then purposely miss 2nd FT and get rebound and make the put-back for the tie...................OR

You defend the entire length of the floor, defend the inbounds, and make Michigan take at best a half court shot for the tie.

Looks like an easy choice to me, and fouling is not the way to go there.

Agreed...its not about covering, its about winning the game for the teams playing..lets see a half court mircule shot or a made ft and a tip for the tie..easy choice there...plus mich just tied the game on a tip the poss before...

Would be dumb to foul. You risk Stauskas in mid shooting motion to shoot 3 FTs. Or easily he could make the first and miss the second and see some fluke over the back foul/tie-up, or worst case scenario a tip in. Not to mention the refs have been atrocious and I would not want it to come down to that. With all that considered, I'd much rather take my chances on missing a half court shot instead. And you said that 2.6 sec is enough to get a good shot...Well he released the ball with 1.5 sec left so there may as well have only been 1.1 seconds. Also he shot it immediately so if they fouled it would have been 3 shots. So dumb.

Just to clarify I don't think OP was talking about fouling on a 3 point shot.  He was talking about Kentucky fouling on the inbounds or before to put Michigan on the line for only 2 shots.

But you still don't do that in this scenario.
