PLAY OF THE MONTH: UMASS @ EMU

EMU has an impressive 13-1 record at home into december this calendar year. Overall since Coach Murphy has taken over the EMU program, he holds a 27-9 record inside the Convocation Center. 

This will be a tough venue for UMASS to win it's first true away game. EMU has shot the light's out in this gym constantly for over a year and I think their past game Kentucky, where they were only trailing by 3 at the half was an indicator that this team is for real, they can play (athletically) with anyone...their proven home record and MASS playing their first of the year in a hostile gym...makes me feel like the spread is favoring the wrong team. 

MASS, who has been in a purgatory like road trip, is likely to look forward to a home game against name brand BYU back home on TV Saturday...and not take EMU as seriously as they should. 

If EMU jumps out early, the crowd will pro-pell EMU up and UMASS down.

I have some major technical angles and situational "travel angles" that make this a hardcore play on the home dog.

Pure gold. Nightmare matchup athletically for umass at the 2 and 3, especially with Gordon on a gimpy wheel.  Umass will have absolutely zero energy after brutal travel schedule and early success against "name" teams.

Umass has played and beat bc, neb, lsu, unm, and Clemson. The name eastern Michigan sounds like a wet fart in that locker room...

The squares love those umass wins and will be all over them, thus allowing a line of 6 when it should be -1 or-2 at worst.

These umass kids walking around campus being treated like gods for putting this proud program back into the top 25.

Don't mean to hijack the thread From Sweep the Leg Johnny, but this is a gem.

First "true" road game for Umass. Great letdown spot as well after they won the Charleston Classic vs a tough field. Big look-ahead spot to BYU at home on Saturday.

Did you really just say that The Convocation Center is a "Hostile Gym"? I am an EMU Alumni and that gym is anything but hostile. In their last 2 home games they have had 810 and 825 people attend. The convocation center holds 8,824! Now with UMASS being a top 25 team I would expect a little more to show up tonight but bad Michigan weather might hinder that as well. Although EMU has been playing decent ball this year they have played no one at home. UMASS will win this game by at least 10, if not more.

BYU is not a true home game for UMass as it's being played in Springfield about 40 minutes away from campus.

Both teams off extended rest , travel means d i c k . Chaz played his worst game of his career and they were able to get it done vs. Clemson in thr title game. All the time off has given them "party" time and recovery. Take a much more battle tested UMass team from wire to wire on a bounce back game for Chaz and the Minutemen.............84-73

I just read the forums occasionally, never post cause I never felt the need to. But I go to UMass and have watched this team for 3 years. If they're ever going to make a tourney bid under Kellogg, this is the year. 

Umass was 8-4 on the road last year and 4-0 in non-league road games. This was without a healthy Cady Lalanne and W. Kentucky transfer Derrick Gordon. Putney is finally playing up to his potential and Chaz Williams is Chaz Williams. This team's chemistry is what will lead them deep into March.

 This team only improved in the offseason which is why I think they will go into Ypsilanti and pull one out tonight. I'll be laying the juice and taking the Minutemen to win.

No way could I make my Play of the Month on a team that only beat Robert Morris & Texas-Arlington at home by 5 points each....too ballsy for me but GL tonite!

 I'm just curious who the hell are the Mormons for them to look ahead of playing next???  If it was a brand name like Boston College then it would be a look ahead situation no???

Have you not been watching CBB the last few years? BYU is a relevant look-ahead game. As of now they are one of the top SOS teams in the country. Is BYU a brand name? Well, not like if Duke, Kentucky, or UNC were coming to town, but it's def a HUGE out of conference game for Umass. Guaranteed it's one the coaching staff and players have had circled for a while...

Normally I'd love this angle but to me here's the flaw, UMASS hasn't played since Nov 24!  That's over a week of rest.  Look aheads and let downs work bettor in the midst of a grind schedule.  I think they are anxious to get back on the court and just play some bball.  If a let down occurs it will most likely be in the 2nd half if they can get a good lead and go into cruise control.  Im on UMASS 1st half.  But good luck, hope we both hit.
