Well what shitty way to end the night. Elon got the victory, I then got fucked twice in the UWM game. Ended up 1-2 -1.15 units. I'll be posting a write up that I did here shortly. I deleted it by accident earlier so I had to re-type again. What a kick in the nuts.

We have a good match up between Marquette & Washington tonight in the Jimmy V Classic at 9:00 est. We have two teams that like to push the ball and score points, but if you look deeper these teams are night and day different.
For those of you who watched #16 Marquette beat the #7 Badgers at the Kohl Center on Saturday, you would have noticed (maybe not) a few key things. 1- Marquette was without it's starting PG Junior Cadougan due to suspension for violation of team policy. He's averaging 7.7 ppg and 6.3 assists thus far this season and really been a big part of this team. He was the main reason Marquette went as far as they did in the NCAA Tourney last season. 2- Jae Crowder who averages 16.9 ppg and 6.7 rebounds, was a non-factor in this game due to early foul trouble. Although he played 24:00 min he only scored 2 pts and 3 rebounds. 3- Marquette held this Badger team to 32% shooting from the floor and 26.3% shooting from behind the arc. 4- Marquette beat this Badger team only shooting 23-60 (38.3%) and shooting 2-11 (18.2%) behind the arc. This is a big difference between what they average 50.9% and 36.8%. 5- Marquette's in-your-face defense forced 12 TOs to a Badger team who doesn't make mistakes or very rarely turns the ball over.
This win over the Badgers is a big confidence booster for this Marquette team going into tonights match up and for the rest of the season. They overcame adversity and battled till the end. Below are two quotes from two young players on the Marquette team.
"Beat a team like that is always a big building block. We played really well, but then again, we can't be satisfied with that. We have to keep moving on. That's only one game. We have to treat the rest of the games this season like that one in order to be a good team" Freshman Derrick Wilson
"It helped us realize how good of a team we can be and rankings mean nothing. We just have to keep buying into what Buzz is teaching us and stay focused each and every day. Just keep picking up on what he's giving us and buying into what he's doing." Freshman Todd Mayo

Now this Huskie team also likes to push the pace of the game. Along with Marquette they are also in the top of the nation of points scored per game. However they have yet to face an all-around athletic team like this Marquette team. Although Marquette does like to play an uptempo style of basketball they are very fundamentally sound on the defensive end of the court. They are currently forcing 18.1 TOs per game and if the Huskies do not posses the ball, Marquette will get early buckets in transition and it will be a long night for them.
I expect this game to be somewhat competitive, but Marquette is just and all-around better team. DJO and Jae Crowder should be the difference in this match up tonight and lead Marquette to victory. I would take Marquette up to -8. I have this capped as a 10+ pt Marquette win tonight.

nbafan - my totals have been all over the place, but if i had a gun to my head I would play the under.
zamigio - no worries.
ochurricane - they will always be the Warriors!
Tone10 - This line opened somewhat low (-5.5) due to it being played on a neutral site. I can imagine this would have opened about -9 to -10 if it was being played at the Bradley Center and MU -4 being play at Washington.
overload - on agree.

I think what people fail to realize is this huskies defense which is ranked #268 in points giving up per game, has failed to keep mediocre offensive teams from scoring.
Gave up 76 to Nevada: #227 in ppg (65.8), #261 in FG% (40.7)
Gave up 65 to Houston: #120 in ppg (71.6), #279 in FG% (40.0)
Gave up 77 to STL: #117 in ppg (71.9), #15 in FG% (50.0)
Gave up 63 to Portland: #214 in ppg (66.6), #249 in FG% (41.3)
Gave up 71 to Florida Atl: #226 in ppg (65.9), #269 in FG% (40.3)
Gave up 74 to Georigia St: #147 in ppg (70.2), #206 in FG% (42.5)
* with STL being the exception
They have not faced an offensive team like Marquette yet this season. #10 in ppg (84.1), #9 in FG% (50.9)
Now could Marquette has a cold night shooting? Of course, but there is enough talent on this team that someone can and will step up to carry this team.

Yikes, on UDuB.... agree Marquette is the better team however the game of college basketball does not always come down to that, it is pure emotions and I see a high scoring game tonight with Wash keeping it within the number.
