SAMFORD +2.5 (2.75 UNITS) - First off,
I'm just having fun by saying this is my Added Game Board Game of the Year, but
it will be my personal largest play of the basketball season for me on an Added
Game. Do with it what you want. It's just my personal handicapping and analysis
of this game. It shouldn't be confused with the game I listed last week as my
College Game of the Year, which I am glad covered by 16 points when I played
UNDER Rider/Albany 147. My GOY was based upon inside information which I shared,
which played out like we had the script when I communicated that Albany would
slow down the tempo due to their top 3 players being out due to injury and had been practicing that way prior to the game. Albany
played their 5th lowest tempo game in the L9 years and despite a great shooting
percentage, it covered by 16 points. If only all games would play out so easily.
Note, I am playing this for about half the amount. This play is just based upon my personal thoughts and there is no inside information.
On to today. Samford has a chance to lockup a first round bye in the
Southern Conference tournament with a win today, which would be a tremendous
accomplishment considering their record in the Southern Conference since joining
in 2009 was 19-38 entering this year. Samford is 8-5 their L13 games, which
includes a one point road loss at #1 in the North, UNC Greensboro, a 2 point home loss
to Greensboro and a 2 point loss at W. Carolina. Samford prepared well and took
their lumps early this season with the 38th toughest out of conference schedule
but it has prepared them well for their stretch drive in the Southern
Conference.
Meanwhile Chattanooga is an absolute trainwreck and have seemingly thrown
in the towel going 1-11 their L12. Reading this article about Senior Day and the
disappointing season sets the tone of how somber things are at Chattanooga right
now. It looks like Coach Shulman is on his way out and this team, which was
expected to finish first, has crapped out all season:
Samford is the top 2 PT FG shooting team in the conference and 3rd in
Offensive Efficiency and it showed in their earlier meeting against Chattanooga,
who ranks 9th in the conference in Defensive Efficiency. In that game, Samford,
which averages an OE of 100.2 put up a 122.9 with an Effective FG% of 57.8% and
lets not forget that this was at a point in time when Samford was 0-4 in
conference and 3-12 overall and Chattanooga was 3-2 in conference and 9-9
overall. Now we have completely different mind sets. Chattanooga is now 4-13 in
conference and 10-20 overall and has nothing to really play for except the
conference tournament next week. Samford is playing with energy and enthusiasm
in a game, which could be one of the program's biggest in a long time which
would afford them a first round bye.
Samford is just the better team and has reason to play with passion against
a downtrodden Chattanooga team. I got down at chirped this at +3.5 last night but still love it
at +2.5.
Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Love this game too and will sprinkle some on it as well.
But the opening line was a head scratcher for me....fully expected Samford to be -1 or -2, or at the very least a PK.
Kinda scared me....any thoughts on why GH?
KineProfessor had this as one of his "WTF" game lines last night too....
Always have respected your opinion and insight GH....props to you!
MM
Thanks MM. I agree it's a head scratcher. KP and I communicated about it last night and we both agree. I am not sure I subscribe to the theory that linemakes are trying to suck people in on a game between Southern Conference schools on a board of over 100 games. They had Samford as a 5 point dog Thursday at W. Carolina which had me doing a small head scratch and I hit that and they Samford covered. I could be wrong but I don't mind taking the better team against a team that doesn't seem to care getting points in a game that means a lot to their program.

Thanks for the write-up. Now, I'm not disagreeing with you on your pick, but I'm always leary of playing the away team on Seniors Night. Chatt has 5 Seniors on the team, 3 of them being starters. The other two starters are Juniors.
Just mentioning that. Again, not saying your pick is wrong or bad or anything like that. I just looked at the matchup and noticed Chatt was a rather experienced team.
Best of Luck GH!

Totally understand your thoughts but I am not seeing much pride left for Chatt. Last road game they were all about making a statement to not be the first Chatt team to go winless on the road in conference and they lost. Shulman has lost total control of this team. They are 1-11 their L12 and outside of next week's tournament, I don't see much to play for. I could be wrong and do understand your thoughts.
